Mrs. Doris Spiers - letter of thanks on behalf of the"Margaret Nice
Ornithological Club" for extending the area for No Dischar~ ðr Firearms.
Solicitors requested a letter of Toleran~e for Lots 146 and 147, Plan
612, as both houses are 3 inches to 4 inches nearer the street line
than the required 30 feet.
Our Solicitors submitted a revised copy of Agreement No. 2 with
Rou~e Hichlands subdivision.
A. J. Thompson recommended that permi{ for gasoline station in
Broken Front Range 3, Lot 22, be held up until County levels of road
are ascertained.

Mr. Threl~eld of Riverside subdivision stated that he felt that the
Riverside Ratepayers' Association did not comprise many of the 33
families in the area; that their demands on the Township Council were
not justified.
Jack H..bleto~ of Riverside subdivision said that costs of improving
Duffin's Creek should be charged to the people who demand and would
benefit by such improvements; that Dttffin'sCreek carries silt and
will be deposited in the flat lands between Riverside and the lake;
that a plebiscite be held on future expenses and stated that only
6 of the; 33 homes were in danger of flooding. He.asked that Council
leave them the usual load of sand so they could use it on slippery
roads.
Robert Clarke asked for a gasoline station license on North West corner
Lot 22, Bro~en Front Range 3. He stated the County levels showed that
road would be lowered 7 feet at the intersection.

Wm. Fairø:rieves objected to a proposed procedure By-law and asked that
Spruce Hill noad be improved.
Mr. TaYlor of Pickering Beach asked that the money for fire equipment
at Pickering Beach be made available immediately so that the Brigade
could start early in the new year.

Mr. Goslin agreed to prepare the Assessment Roll as recommended by
Mr. T. R. tlunter of the Department of Municipal Affairs, and recommended
a Police Village be formed in South West Pickering for Assessment purposes
on ly .
Mr. Godson submitted a complete road report to date and explained it.
E. G. Baker stated he did not have time to carry out duties of Welfare
Officer and asked that he be relieved of that position; that there
was a considerable backlog of Hospitalization reports to be made.
Harry Ashton stated that the Civil Defence programme was well advanced
and that to carry out the programme he would require a further $500.00
òr $125.00 Township share by March 31, 1958, for rescue equipment.
Councillor Stewart reported that he, Chief Lynde and Mr. Campbell of the
Fire Marshall's Department had met and it was AGREED that equipment to
value of $4,300.00 should be purchased for South East FireArea No.2.

MOVED by Mr. Stewart, Seconded by Mr. Chapman, that this Township Council
formally sign the Agreement covering the second half of Rouge Highlands
Subdivision filling in the blank in., Section 6 dealing with the performance
bond and that amount to be $30,000;00. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Scott, Seconded by Mr. Stewart, that Mr.Clarke's request for
a permit for a gasoline station on the south east corner of the Base Line
and Liverpool Road be tabled until a report on the suitability of this site
be obtained from Mr. Sims, the County Engineer.
Mr. Sims, who has already been asked for a report on this matter, to be
contacted by the Clerk and asked for a reply as soon as possible. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Scott, Seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Mr. Godson be instructed
to arrange for the erection of the "Drive CarefulJy" signs supplied by
the Altona Feed Mills, on the Pickering-Uxbridge townline. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Scott, Seconded by Mr. Stewart, that Mr. Godson (or his clerk)
canvass the residents on Spruce Hill Road immediately and inform them that
to reconstruct Spruce Hill road it will be necessary to improve the drain-
age on the road and in doing so many of the existing culverts will have to
be replaced. If the existing culvert is found to consist of a substandard
culvert the householder will be expected to pay for a new culvert. Mr.
Godson is to inform the residents that this work will be started immediately.

ment grader be sent in to level the land south of Imperial Oil station at
Rougemount and No.2 Highway as requested for skating rink. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Pugh, Seconded by Mr. Chapman, that subject to the approval
of the County Engineer regarding the base line and subject to approval of
Department of Highways on Highway No.2, Shell Oil Company be given approval
to go ahead with Gasoline Stations as requested by Mr. McQueen. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Stewart, Seconded by Mr. James, that Fire Area No.2 be author-
ized to spend money or order equipment at this time so that Fire Area No.2
be an effective fire fighting force by Jan. 1, 1958.
It is understood that all expenditures must be in agreement with the Township
Fire Chief and that all expenditures are not to exceed the $4,300.00 as
established in our Fire Area No. 2 By-law. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Scott, Seconded by Mr. Pugh, that a further grant of $125.00
be made to the Civil Defence Committee for the purchase of additional equip-
ment for Civil Defence training purposes, provided that the Federal and
Provincial Governments make their usual contributions. CARRIED

granted to the owners of Lots 146 and 147, Plan 612, as in error the set
back is only 29 feet 8-1/4 inches and 29 feet 9 inches respectively.

Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. ~ulian, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of the Township of Pickering to appoint a Uistrict Fire Chief for
Fire Area Nùmber 2 in South East Pickering and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. James, moves that By-Law Number 2269 to
appoint a District Fire Chief forFire Area Number 2 in South East Pickering
be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole
thereon.
