Lawson J. Sherman Scott Sidney S. J. Pugh Edgar James J. S. Chapman Glenn Julian Robert L. Stewart L. T. Johnston, Clerk The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: tl. Bro~gham W. Bell Telephone, notice of proposed increased rates. '5. Mr. Ferguson, of Squire's Beach, asked that lake end of Lakeview Avenue be closed to cars, as it is used for all night parties. Clerk required to ask Police to watch. '6. Ajax-Pickerin~ Hospital ask for t~laNce 1957 grant now, rather than monthly. )7. Red Cross wish a lease on Brock Road Schoolhouse. 18. Garba~e Department request extra man. ~fr. Scott discuss with Mr. Carl ton. )9. A request was received from firemen of Area No.1 for two permanent firemen because the Skidmore factory has closed down, leaving insufficient volunteer firemen during daytime. The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard: '1. Mrs. White, of White Real Estate, stated that our By~Law Enforcement Officer had complained that her temporary office at West Rouge did not meet with standards of Zoning By-Law. Mrs. White agreed, but stated the building would only be used to complete the Chesterhill Development and expected this would take about one year only, and asked permission to occupy this building for another year. )2. Mr. Stenabough complained about Road Department turning water on to his lot in Concession 1, Lot 26. Engineer investigate and report to Council any change and why bank not sodded. )3. Steve Kaskiw stated he had purchased 12" culverts from Township for entrances to his new houses in West Rouge. Our Engineer now requires these culverts be changed to ~8". Asked Council to take back old culverts and he would pay increased costs of culverts and costs of change-over. 14. Mr. Shanley, of Concession 4, Lot 21, complained about heavy gravel trucks operating all night so that they cannot sleep. )5. Mr. Farrow, of Chesley, stated he was a construction worker, had a 30 day job in Ajax, and requested permission to live in his trailer in the Township for this period. )6. Mr. Fair~rieves discussed grading and culverts on Spruce Hill Road. - 2 - RESOHT'l'ION NTn-mER 141 MOVED by '·fr. Stewart, seconded by Mr, Scott, that the West Rouge Zoning By-Law l1e amended to permit temporary construction buildings, temporary land develop- me~t, sales offices, and occupancy permits for all buildings. Clerk prepare. CARRIED RESOLnTION NTnfßER 142 MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded 11y Mr. Pugh, that the G. White and Company be permitted to continue to operate their Real Estate business in their temporary bl1ildi~g to develop the area for a period of one year from this date. CARRIED YEAS: Messrs. James, Chapman, Pugh, Lawson, Stewart, Julian NAY: Mr. Scott RESOLUTION NIDffiBR 143 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that By-Law Number 1838 providing for licenses for trailer camps be amended to permit construction workers to take out a permit to occupy traiiérs, in the Township for a period not to exceed ~O days. CARRIED RESOLtT'l'ION NUMBER 144 MOVED by Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that Mr. Farrow be permitted to park and use his trailer in the Township for a period not to exceed one month. CARRIED RESOLtT'l'ION NllliBER 145 MOVED by Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Scott, that Council object to the Bell Telephone Company of Canada increasing their rates because of insufficient service. CARRIED RESOLTITTON NUMBER 146 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the legal f'ees of , 1,291.40 re Burrows assessment case ne paid. CARRIED RESOLtITION NUMBER 147 MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Julian, that. Treasurer be authorized to pay Ajax-Pickering General Hospital the balance of the $ 7,500.00 grant in full now rather than monthly to end of year. CARRIED RESOLUTION NUMBER 148 MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James that Clerk be directed to make a firm offer of ~2,000.00 for Badgerow right-of-way in Concession 3, Lots 17 and 18, inclurling fencing of roac'J only, 3 gates and cui vert.s. Clerk advise that it is expected t.ha t large cuI vert woul"f_ permit. cows to cross under. CARRIED RESOLTITION NUMBER 149 MOVED by Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that Clerk be thanked for his handling of $2,500.00 donations for Patsy MacKenzie Fund. CARRIED RESOLUTION NIDfBER 150 MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded '11y Mr. Scott, that Clerk advertise for two experienced full time f'iremen f'or Fire Area No.2 and that the starting salary l1e ~3,lOO.00 to '3,600.00, depending on qualifications. CARRIED Advertise in Pickering News, Ajax Advertiser, The Enterprise, The Star and the Telegram. RESOLTTTION Ntrn'BRR 151 MOVED by ~fr. Chapman, seconded hy Mr. James, that the Reeve anc'J Clerk sign an Agreement ,rlth the Pickering Township Red Cross Society f'or a 99 year lease on t.he Brock Road Schoolhouse for One Dollar per year. CARRIED RESOLUTION NU?-mER 152 MOVED '11y Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that Clerk send a letter to D. D'Antlmo congratulating him on the l1uildings he is building in \vest. Rouge. MOTION LOST RESOLUTION NUMBER 153 MOVED by Mr. ~lgh, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that the Corporation of the Township of Pickering employ G. T. Horton, Esq., O.L.S., to complete the necessary snrvey work reqlÜred in the proposed waterworks system and that he shall be instruct.ed by anlt work under the supervision of Messrs. Proctor and Redfern. CARRIED - 3 - CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS ~ 1. Aft vertise for two firemen. )2. Ask Police Chief to check on parking at Squire's Reach south of Lakeview Avenue. 3.
