A Meeting of Council was held on TUESDAY, the SIXTH day of AUGUST, 1957, at
EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Chapman, t.hat Minutes of Meeting held July 2,
1957, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Minutes of Meeting held July 8,
1957, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Minutes of Meeting held July 15,
1957, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that Minutes of Meeting held July 22,
1957, be adopted. CARRIED
The following CORRESPONDENCE WAS read:
1. A. J. Thompson. July' report.
2. Our Solicitors re Ajax Boundary Roads.
3. Ontario Count.y Hospitalization Plan increasing services to employees:
Extra cost to Employees, $ 209.52
Extra cost to Township, 104.76
4. Ontario Water Resources Commission - acknowledge receipt of our By-Law and
state they will make a survey.
5. H. J. Burrows asked to have his 1957 Kennel License changed from Pine Ridge
Road to north half of Lot 18, Concession 3. Mr. A. J. Thompson approved.
Councillor James check for next meeting.
6. Clerk reported he had again met owners of Bad~erow property where Township desir
right-of-way through Lots 17-18, Concession 3, and offered $2,000.00, fencing,
t.wo gates and two culverts, fencing at either end of culvert for cattle run from
one side to other. They want $3,000.00 - 3 gates and culverts - cattle run - ne
fence on 4th Concession east of proposed road to east limit.
7. Clerk reported ~arba~e men working 60 hours per week or better and requested
4th man. Held over for full council.
8. Buildin~ Insuector reported for July 33 Permits, $292,000.00. 15 houses
averagin~ over $15,000.00 each. '

1956 - 193 house Permits - year to date, 1,692,020.00
9. C. E. Morley submitted price of $78.60 yearly insurance to cover fire and
miscellaneous on non licensed road equipment.
10. July Tax Collection, $2,961.06 arrears - ò/s - $ 61,746.10.
11. Petition of 207 names from Claremont area requesting Council to withhold Third
Reading to the "By-Law creative of the whole of the Township of Pickering a
water area, until further information regarding costs and regulations are
made availañle". Clerk advise that a Committee will be heard by Council.
12. Petition. 24 names requesting heavy gravel trucks be prohibited from operating
Qn Concession 4 west .between 9:30 P. M. and 6 A. M. Clerk get information
from Department of Highways.

\GREED that owners of dogs who have secured current year's license in another
~unicipality, who now reside in Township be not required to purchase Township
license for current year.

10VED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr, Stewart, that the 1957 taxes of Dunbarton
Kiwanis Club, amounting to Twenty-Seven Dollars and Twelve Cents ($27.12) be
~ritten off the Township of Pickering 1957 Tax Roll. CARRIED

rates be accepted with Council paying one-third. CARRIED

rhe following PERSONS, on MOTION, mere heard:
L. Mr. A. Bad~erow and Mrs. Llo~B.rawn, maintained that $3,000.00 and extras was
a fair price for proposed road right-of-way in Concession 3, Lots 17-18. Clerk
discuss with Reeve and phone Mrs. Brawn.
Mr. Farnell pointed out that the approach to Canadian National Railway crossing
at Rosebank from the east is very bad with many accidents. He recommended that
the crossing be protected by a flood light. Council agreed to have Engineer
inspect and report.
J. Messrs. YoUIJ~. Guest. and Carter, of East Rouge, complained about disorderly
night parties at end of West Point Crescent. The Reeve to discuss with
Police Chief.

[r. Chapman, seconded by Mr.. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
'ownship of Pickering to repeal By-Law Number 2185 and By-Law Number 2249 amending
:aid By-Law Number 2185, and that same now be read a first time.

hole on By-Law Number 2253 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third

BY-LAW NNIBER 2254
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Chapman, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to provide for the issue of Debentures in the aggregate
pri~èip~l amount of $153,000.00 to provide moneys for the purpose of building
and equipping a six room school in Township School Area Number 2 of the Township
of Pickering and the purchase of a site therefor, and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, moves that By-Law Number 2254 to provide for the
issue of Debentures in the aggregate principal amount of $ 153,000.00 to provide
moneys for the purpose of building and equipping a six room school in Township
School Area Number 2 of the Township of Pickering and the purchase of a site
therefor, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the
Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2254 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a
Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the
Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
CLERK'SINS~RUCTIONS
Check with Proctor and Redfern and Hydro re $135.00 monthly Hydro bill for
water area.
MOVED by Mr. Chapman, seconded by Mr. James, that this meeting do now adjourn to
meet again on TUESDAY, the THIRD day of September, 1957, and the hour of 8:00
o'clock in the evening. CARRIED
