A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the EIGHTH day of JULY, 1957,
at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The followinÆ CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. County Clerk advised that fee for use of County "Lock-Up" would be
Five Dollars per night instead of One Dollar, as of January 1, 1958.
2. 1957 First Tax Instalment - . 315,000.00 collected.
The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1. Mr. Kniibt, owner of 40 acres in the south half of Lot 22, Concession 4,
stated his land assessment had increased from $40.00 per acre to $100.00,
and it is being farmed by Mr. H. Jackson. Mr. Knight claimed he had
discussed the assessment recently with the Assessor, who was unaware
the land was being actively farmed. The Reeve regretted Council's in-
ability to make any change for 1957 taxation.
2. Mr. McIntosh, of Pitney Bowes, demonstrated two postage stamp meters,
one '6.00 per month rental plus $32.50 installation, and other $7.20
to $12.00, or 6% minimum monthly rental plus $280.00 installation.
3. Mr. Andrew Dan.d objected to Chesterhill Developments Limited diverting
water onto his Golf Course, contrary to By-Law Number 2012.
4. Mr. Fair~rieves stated he now understood that Tax Collector is entirely
responsible for tax collection, but objected to Planning Board methods.
5. B. W. Lotton objected to ditching work being done by Township on Altona
Read in tront of his ta~. Council agreed that removed earth should be
hauled away, not piled up on roadside.
6. Mr. Ed Hannah stated the Legion of Dunbarton and other interested persons
were promoting boxing, wrestling, track and other activities for 35 to
40 children, and asked for a grant towards purchase of tumbling mats,
which would cost from $200.00 to $600.00.

sized postage meter, $36.00 quarterly plus 6280.00 installation charge, trom
Pitney Bowes. CARRIED

RESOLUTION NUMBER 127
MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Scott, that in case the Tax Collector tails or
omits to collect the taxes or any portion thereot by the day appointed or to be
appointed tor the return of the Collector's Ro&l, the Tax Collector is hereby
authorized to continue the leVy and collection of the unpaid taxes in the manner
and with the powers provided by law for the general levy and collection ot taxes.
