BROUGHAM
A Meeting of Council was held on TUESDAY, the SECOND day of JULY, 1957,
at EIGHT o'clock in the .evening.

MOVED by }fro Scott, seconded by Hr. Pugh, that the Minutes of Heeting
beld June 3, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by }fro Pugh, seconòed by Mr. James, that the Minutes of Meeting
held June 12, 1957, be a~opted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the Minutes of Meeting
he ld June 17, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED

held June 24, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED
The following CORRESPONDENCE wås read:
1. BuildinR: Inspector's June Report. 50 Permits, estimated value $500,650.00
including 30 dwellings averaging $14,900.00 each.
1956 to date - $1,363,570.00
1957 to date - 1,907,350.00
South East Pickerin~ pro~osed Fire Area C. N. R. to Lake Ontario,
Lots 1 to 6, assessment $384,005.00 at 4 mills will raise $1,536.00.

3. School Attendance Officer - 2,629 Public School pupils in May. Increase
of 16 over April.
4. Geo. B. Petti~rew complained about septic tank installation and inspection
of his lot in Plan 612, open sewer on road and basement floor cracking.
Clerk advise~ that Council will assist him in an action against builder.
5. Solicitors for Miller, Plan 319, Lot 48, asked for a letter of Tolerance
from Council for house located on 50 foot lot.
6. Joseph Garland stated he would make settlement of two corn~rs cut by
Township at Altona Road and Concession 3 in 1952~of $600.00. Council
had offered $300.00 which was refused so they expropriated .207 acres.
Clerk advised to inform Mr. Garland that the original offer still stands.
The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard.
1. Mr. Godson discussed certain roads to be paved.
2. Mr. Edward Lewis of Claremont complained about Police Village Trustees
cutting his fence. Advised to see his lawyer and Reeve stated he would
see Village Trustees.
3. Mr. FairR:rieve of Dunbarton r~quested Council to authorize a liquor
vote of Township for a Brewer s Warehouse.
4. Messrs. llenderson. Reed. Harrison. Welsh & Benson and several others
of Plan 612 asked Council to assist them financially in a suit against
their builder to force him to bring septic tanks and certain carpenter
\Jork up to the standard required by Township By-Laws.

Messrs. Bell and Perki~ complained about their septic tanks and even
thou~h the Builder, Steve Kaskiw had recently improved the septic
tank;, they wished to register their lack of confidence in the installation.
Mr. Steve Kaskiw stated he haà sub-contracted the installation of 55 .
to 60 septic tanks to Zineth Const.ruction Company but now he felt the~r
work not satisfactory; that he would put. loam on the Bell and Perkis
septic tank weepers.
Messrs. Reed and Welsh claimed their builder had been given wrong
roa~ levels so that their driveways were 12 inches toò low. Mr. Godson
to investigate.
Deputy Reeve Scott stated the garbage men had asked for rain coats and
rain hats and an additional man.

RESOLUTION NO. 122
MOVED by Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Scott, that Clerk secure raincoats
and rain hats of good quality for the garbage men and that a box be made
o~ truck to store same. CARRIED
RÉSOLUTION NO. 123
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the Township assume 50%
of the cost of legal action, through McGuire, Worrall, Stevens & Hassard,
of investigation of the possible action against Rougedale Construction
Company to require them to place the septic tanks, improperly installed
by them, in the homes now occupied by Messrs. Henderson, Pettigrew, Benson,
Stewart and Harrison in a proper condition as required by the Township
septic tank by-laws. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NO. 124
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that as house now erected
on Lot 48, Plan 319, is Eight feet Nine and one-half inches (8'9!") to
Eight feet Eleven inches (8'11") from north side of lot and carport on
south side of this Fifty foot (50') lot is Three feet Eleven and one-half
inches (3'll~") to Three feet Ten inches (3'10") from the lot line, this
Council will not institute proceedings against this or any future owner
because of breach of sideyard section of the Zoning By-Law and that Clerk
be directed to issue a letter of tolerance. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2249 (Two Readings)
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Julian, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to repeal By-Law Number 2247 and to amend By-Law
Number 2185, which authorizes the borrowing of $153,000.00 for Public School
purposes, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2249 to repeal
By-Law Number 2247 and to amend By-Law Number 2185 which authorizes the
borrowing of $ 153,000.00 for Public School purposes, be now read a second time,
and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, that the accounts, amounting to
, 3,340.44,~as reported by the FINANCE COMMITTEE, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, that the accounts, amounting to

MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the accounts, amounting to
1 78.00,~as reported by the LIVESTOCK COMMITTEE, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Julian, that the accounts, amounting to
, 1,038.52,Vlas reported by the PUBLIC UTILITIES CO~fITTEE, be adopted.

Committee or: ROADS AND BRIDGES, amoulltir.g to,~22,395.57f1.be adopted, CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that the accounts, amounting
to $ 1,088.l8,,\as reported by WELFARE COMMITTEE, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, that the ~eeve grant his order on
the Treasurer to pay the several accounts as presented and passed in the various
reports as passed this day. CARRIED
CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Ask Mr. Godson to view east ditch of East Avenue to see if it could not be
raised 18 inches.
2. Advise Mr. Fitzpatrick of Rougedale Construction Company, that the Township is
lending its support to an action being brought against him by the present five
owners of houses built by him re improper septic tank installation. (Copy,
Harrison) .
3. Ask Þfr. Godson to view road in front of Messrs. Reed and Welsh as grades
given builders were l~ inches lower
4. Contact Department of Education, Recreation Department, for approval of
our By-T.Jaw.
