A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the THIRTEENTH day of MAY, 1957,
at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

Clerk advised that D. Ryckman quit Garbage Collection Department
May 11th and that he had hired James T. Shanby to start May 13th.
Bell. Gouinlock & Comp~ confirmed purchase of $65,000.00 - 5~ -
20-year debentures at $96.00.
Jud~eLs Order for closing parts of Centre and Factory Streets in
Whitevale and ordering said roads to be deeded to Garnet Dickson
from Township.
A Second A£reement öf Consumers' Gas Company for easement - namely
one foot reserve South West ðorner Plan 377.
Ontario Municipal Board - Tentative approval for $65,000.00 - 5~%

The following PERSONS. on MOTION, were heard:
1. Assessor D. Goslin asked for consideration as he cannot qualify for
Township Pension Plan. Reeve suggested he get information re private
annuity.
2. Mr. W. Fair£rieves objected to $300.00 Building Deposit, Spruce Hill
Road grading not started and the use of Mr. Shingler instead of use
of Seêònd Division Court in collecting taxes.

Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Julian, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of the Township of Pickering to increase the Township borrowing
limit at the Canadian Rank of Commerce, Claremont, and that same now
be read a first time.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2235 to
increase the Township borrowing limit at the Canadian Bank of Commerce,
Claremont, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the report of the Committee
of the Whole on By-Law Number 2235 be adopted, ,and that the said By-Law
be now read a Third time and ¡PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the
same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Julian, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of the Township of Pickering to levy a rate to cover cost of
operation of the several Fire Departments in the year 1957, and that
same now be read a first time.

of the Township of Pickering to increase certain employees' salaries,
and that same now be read a first time.

that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.

of the Township of Pickering to designate limited rates of speed at
which motor vehicles may be driven, on certain roads in the Township
of Pickering, and that same now be reas a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves that By-Law Number 2238 to
designate limited rates of speed at which motor vehicles may be driven
on certain roads in the Township of Pickering be now read a secont time,
and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.

of the Whole on By-Law Number 2238 be adopted, and that the said By-Law
be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the

Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to assess the several Public School Sections
in the Municipality of the Township of Pickering, to provide funds for
the purposes of the said School Sections, in the y~ar 1957, and that
same now be read a first time.
Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2239 to assess
the several Public ~chool Sections in the Municipality of the Township of
Pickering, to provide funds for the purposes of the said School Sections,
in the year 1957, be now read a second time, and thatCouncil go into
Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.

of the Whole on By-Law Number 2239 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be
now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve andClerkœign the same,

Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of the Township of Pickering to assess the Municipality of the
Township of Pickering, including the Police Village of Claremont, for
a General Public School rate to provide funds for the Township Statutory
Grants to Public Schools in the year 1957, and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. James, moves that By-Law Number 2240 to
assess the Municipality of the Township of Pickering, includivg the

Mr. Julian, secovded by Mr. Stewart, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of the Township of Pickering to assess the Municipality for the
improvemevt and repair of roads and bridges, payment of salaries, the
general expenses of the Corporation, to defray the cost of welfare,for
this Municipality's share of the cost of roads and general purposes of
the County of Ontario and to pay the Township's share of the cost of
operations of the Pickering District High School Board for the year 1957,
and that same vow be read a first time.
Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2241 to assess
the Municipality for the improvement and repair of roads and bridges,
payment of salaries, the general experses of the Corporation, to defray
the cost of welfare, for the Municipality's share of the cost of roads
and general purposes of the County of Ontario and to pay the township's
share of the cost of operations of ,the Pickering District High School
Board for the year 1957, be now read a second tirnê, and that Council
go into Committee of the Whole thereon.

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to assess Police Area Number 6ne for rates
for the year 1957, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, moves that By-Law Number 2242 to assess
Police Area Number One for rates for~the year 1957, be now read a second
time, and that Council go irto Committee of the Whole thereon.

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Julian, moves that the report of the Committee
of the Whole on By-TAw Number ?~42 'he adopted, ard that the said By-Law
be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the
same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Council sell Bell,
Gouinlock & Company $65,000.00 - 5~% - 20 year debentures at price
of $96.00 and accrue~ interest as per five week option. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Julian, that this Council
authorize the Reeve and Cl~,rk to enter into two agreements with the
Consumers' Gas Company of toronto for easements to
(1) pass through a one foot right of way in S. W. corner Plan 377
(2) pass through certain lands now occupied by our Police Department
in Concession 1 Lot 26 CARRIE~

MOVED by ~Ir. Scott, seconlled. by }lr. Pugh, that Council authorize the
Reeve and Cl§rk to sign deed conveying certain parts of Centre Street
and Factory Street in Whitevale from Township to Garnet Taylor Dickson
as ~aid parts of streets have been closed by the Judge and ordered to
be deeded to Mr. Dickson. CARRIED

Clerk to advertise for list of full time insurance agents who are
rat.epayers in Pickering Township and ask }fr. Godson to estimate the
amount of money he has available in his budget for speed signs.
