MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the Minutes of Meeting held

CORRESPONDENCE.
1.
McGuire. Worrall. Stevens & Hassard - Legal adviøe that abutting roads
with Ajax are all boundary roads and as such the cost of maintenance
and construction would be divided equally between the two Municipalities.
Department of National Revenue advise that purchase of new truck and
plow for Township is exempt from sales tax but new truck without plow
is liable for tax.

Ontario Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals state Pickering
Dog Pound is superior to most pounds used by Municipalities and Mr.
Gerigs is well qualified for position but recommend that there be a
cement floor for better cleaning and secondly that in destroying dogs
the exhaust be cooled through water before fumes enter killing box.
Buildin~ Inspector's April Report - 40 Permits, value $370,000.00,
24 dwellings, estimated average value $14,500.00 each.
Veryl Reaman would like no holidays this year but one month next year
so he can go to Mexico.
Consumers' Gas Company submitted an agreement for their~ne around
Police Station.
Alex Munroe owner of 10 acres in B.F.R. 2 Lot 35 objects to Rouge
Highlands grading roads in such a manner that silt is flowing down
stream creating damage to his lands. Council take no official action
but Reeve will contact officers of Rouge Highlands. '

9. Mr. McNulty proposes to build a home under V.L.A. in Calvert subdivision
Cóncession 1 Lot 17 and wishes to live in a trailer while house is being
built.

The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1. Mr. Marks. Chairman. and Mr. Holland. SUDerintendent, of Oshawa General
Hospital asked that Council pay arrears of indigent accounts with them.

In 1953 a Grant of $ 200.00 was made by the Township. these costs are
based on $17.00 per day indigent rate and include depreciation which4
less grants leave a deficit of about $9.25 net per day. The Township
of Whitby and City of Oshawa pay yearly loss, with other Municipalities
paying part. Council agreed to make decision May 13th.
2. A. J. Thompson stated that there were a number of businesses operated
in West Rouge from homes contrary to the zoning By-Law. Council directed
him to enforce the By-Law where visible after due warning.
3. Miss KellY- who recently purchased Lot 325 Plan 345 asked permission to
erect a summer cottage with about 700 square feet.
4. Mr. B. Slei~htholme. member of Dunbarton Kiwanis Club stated they wished
to build an approximate $10,000.00 Community Hall and wished to do so
under the Township Recreation Committee. Council agreed that they favoured
such a project, would encourage it and assist in every way possible to
arrange for Provincial grants, that the Club would make an application to
the Clerk who would (pa~s it on to the Township Recreation Committee and
supply them with method of levying on Tax bill.
5. John Graham of Bell. Gouinlock & Company stated they would pick up
$65,000.00 debenture and would confirm on May 7th but asked for an
extension of 30 days on' the $153,000.00 issue.
6. Mrs. Newall asked for a Kennel License for Mr. Sorensen who contemplated
purchasing a lot 660' deep at location of Old Saddle and Bridle Inn,
Concession 1 Lot 5 and submitted approval of the three nearby residents.
7. Mr. Godson stated
(1) Claude Smith would purchase Township crusher for price of$ 8,500.00
payable one-third in 1957-8-9 providing he get contract to crush
30,000 yards yearly for Township at 50¢ per yard.
(2) Reported black top on Altona Road between Concessions 2 and 3
badly broken up and, considerable portion of it needed draining.
Pickering Drilling Contractors agreed to ditch roadway at 35¢
per foot, said ditch to be 2'6" deep by 15". The cost of
remedial work would be approximately $3,500.00.
(3) Calcium Chloride would be put on by Township trucks and should
all be on by May 20th.
Mr. Chapman asked that Council permit the use of a grader on Stroud Lane
at regular rates.
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that Miss Kelly ORner of Lot 325
Plan 345 be permitted to erect a summer home of an approximate 700 square
feet. floor space subject to solicitor's advice and an agreement that said 7/;/,/'?'r:!-'

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that 30-day option of Bell, Gouinlock
on fÏ53,000.00 debenture issue be extended for 30 days and option on $65,000,00 ~v

MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that a Kennel License be granted
Mr. Sorensen to operate on N~ Lot 5 Concession 1 subject to approval of
Mr. A. J. Thompson. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Julian, that Township grade Stroud lane
at regular rates when requested and that Councillor Chapman be advised when
work to be started. CARRIED

Limited at price of $36.40 F.O.B. Port Union. CARRIED

THAT WHEREAS the Department of Highways have recently established a policy
of limiting the rate of speed at which Motor Vehicles may be driven in semi-
built-up areas at 40 miles per hour,
AND WHEREAS Highway Number 2 between the Altona Road, between Township lots
32 and 33, and Dixie Road, between Township lots 24 and 25 could be termed
a semi-built-up area and there are 296 Public School children attending ~
Dunbarton School on this Highway,
AND WHEREAS Highway Number 401 lies less than 40 rods to the south with a
50 mile speed, limit,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that this Council petition the Department of Highways
to zone Highway Number 2 between Altona Road and Dixie Road to a 40 mile per
hour speed limit for Motor Vehicles. CARRIED

Check cost of water installations in West Rouge.
Get daily indigent loss cost at Ajax.
Advise Ajax that Township wishes accounting of monies spent on Boundary
Roads for year 1956 and to date this year and arrange for a meeting of
Road Committes to discuss 1957 programme.
Ask Mr. Godson to check culvert beside Saunders entrance on sideline
between lots 8 and 9 Concession 3.

Members hold May 21st for Mr. Ellerbeck re Community parks and
programmes.

adjourn to meet again on Monday, the 3rd day of June, 1957, at the hour
