The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1. w. C. Will SOfl and. hT. E. Hol tby, Trustees of Brougham Cemet.ery, claimed
~funicipal Ii a't)ili ty for erosior of North East corner of Cemetery. It
was agreed that. t.he Reeve would contact County Engineer.
2. Mr. Robertsofl in Plan 509 claimed Township should give him a new culvert
for his driveway as present one broken. Mr. Godson to view.
3. Mr. Moore, Spruce Hill Road, claimed his culvert in good condition.
Mr. Godson to see.
4. Mr. Disautel,. Concession 3, TJot 7, asked permission to divide property.
Directed to meet Planning Board.
5. Mr. Taylor of Pickering Beach Ratepayers' Association recommended that
a Fire Department be set up at Pickering Beach to serve north to
ftighway 2 includ.ing Harwood Avenue. He felt that if $1,500.00 per year
was given to them rather than Ajdx they could keep up good equipment
with sufficient firemen to operate. Left with Fire Committee.
6. Mr. Flatr.Jan asked for a building permit for house at No.3 Victory
Drive, Fairport Beach. As Council by µesolution had refused Mr. Flatman
further permits, hß ~vas directed to complete 4 other houses to the
satisfaction of the Building Inspector.
7. Mr. ~vestgate, operator of a licenseñ. Driving School, objected to other
persons operating such a business without a permit. Mr. 'vestgate was
advised that the Police were investigating the unnamed person Hho is
operating; also that if a proper person with proper equipment were to
ask for a Driving School license it would be granted.
8. Hr. Hazlett, o~mer of 121. acres in B.F.R.3 Lot 35 between High'vays 401
and 2, stated he wished to build a Motel on west 4 or 5 acres with 25
Ul,its withir G months and possibly 50 units shortly. He aslced for
~fullicipal water. Council agreed to advise him on April 9th if the
source would be from Water Area No.1 or Scarboro.
9. Mr. Ber,gman, o~.¡ner of Gasoline Sta tiol1 oil No. 2 Highway Lot 35, stated
he ~vould lilce Municipal water and recommended that area north of
Highway 401 be serviced from Water Area No.1.
10. Mr. q~ E. Morley submitted quotations on Township Insurance and intro-
duced Mr. HcLelland of Fral~k Cowan Insurance of Woodstock who are
Municipal Insurance Brolcers. ~fr. McLelland stated his firm would
make a survey of Municipal needs, that they could write the proper
insurance or Mr. Morley could act as their agent.
11. Messrs. Godson, Hic]{S and Councillor PuJ!h all reconmlended the purchase
of an Adams grader over a Catipillar and stated operators Booth and
Lynn also agreed.

~OV~D_by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the Township purchase an
A~ams 123 H.P. Grader for tendered price of $21,107.00 including a
Technometer, that payment be made one-third June 30, 1957, one-third
August 31, 1957 apd one-third October 31, 1957 subject to the approval
of the Department of Highways. CA~IED

It was AG~ED that the Adams Company should give the Township an agreement
whereby they would transfer the plow and wing from old maintainer to new
one for the Slm of $ 1,100.00, that the plow should be rebuilt to equal
new equipment any time until the next snow plowing season.
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Julian, that the Women's Institute of ~L
Pickering should be paid a grant of $25.00 to assist in work of preparing
a history of Pickering Township. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that the accounts, amounting
to ~,489.57Ñ\as reported by the Finance Committe~, be adopted.

MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that the Reeve grant his order
on the Treasurer to pay the various accounts as presented and passed by
the various Committees. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that this Council do now adjourE
to meet again on Monday, the Sixth day of May, 1957, at the hour of 8 P,M.
