A Meeting of Pickering Township Council was held on MONDAY, the Twenty-
fifth day of MARCH, 1957, at EIG~T o'clock in the evening.
PRESENT: William G. Lawson, in the Chair

The following CORRE$~ºNDENCE was read:
1.

School Area Numbe~~ Board, application for 60,000.00 - 20 year -
debenture for four room addition and equipment for Fairport Beach
School.

2. Civ~l Defen~ Budget, $ 2,000.00, submitted and approved.
3. A.,.JJhompson submitted report on proposed building lot 550 feet,
north 350 feet of west half of Lot 7, Plan 330, stating that the
house would be 15 feet from the watercourse, and that in the
opinion of the Building Inspector, the lot is a good lot on which
to build. Councillor Julian agreed with the Building Inspector.
Clerk advised Council that there is no provision in the Fire Area Act
for a Committee òutside Council to make purchases for the Brigade and
Council never gave any authority for such purchases l!RFire Area 1 to
any group.
The following PERSONS, on MOT!ºN, were heard:
1. Mr. Harpel~, of Plan 353, asked if Council would re-consider permitting
his tenant to occupy the storage shed on his property.
2. ~r..H-ºpkinson objected to residents of Spruce Hill Road using the
private 33 foot Stroud Road as they have now made it impassable.
Clerk find out ownership of "Stroud Road".

Mr. Chapman, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Mr. A. J. Thompson be
to uphold the By-Law and that Mr. Cochrane and family be

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Julian, that the 1957 Township budget
include $7,500.00 for industrial promotion and $ 10,800.00 - 1956 Road
deficit. CARRIED

AG~~D that the Pickering Township Red Cross Society be permitted to
purchase the old Brock Road Schoolhouse in the name of the Township of
Pickering for $ 1,700.00.
BY-LAW NUMBER 2225 (Two Readings)
Mr, Robert Stewart, seconded by Mr. Glenn Julian, moves for leave to
introduce a" By-Law of the Township of Pickering to amend By-Law Number
2097 and to repeal By-Law Number 2219, and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2225 to
amend By-Law Number 2097 and to repeal Bv-Law Number 2219 be now read a
second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Wh~le thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to provide for the 1957 expenditures on roads in the
Township of Pickering, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, moves that By-Law N~ber 2226 to provide
for the 1957 experditures on roads in the Township of P.ckering be now read
a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Julian, moves that the report or the Committee or
the Whole on ny-Law Number 2226 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now
read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the
Seal of the Corporation be afrixed thereto. CARRIED
