A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the ELEVENTH day of MARCH, 1957,
at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Pickerin~ Beach Ratepayers' Association complained that Pickering
Village Fire Department took 40 minutes to answer a call. Enclosed
copy of letter they wrote to Ontario Fire Marshal1s Office.
2. Villa~e of Streetsville stated reason for not endorsing our resol-
ution asking for membership on Metro Planning Board was that they
did not feel fringe representation were too much interested in Metro
Proper problems.
3. Denartment of Health (Ontario Hospital Services Committee) thanking
us for endorsing County resolution re indigent hospitalization rates
and advising that they believe the new Hospital Insurance Programme
will rectify this troublesome point.
4. County of Yor~ resolution for endorsement "That the jurisdiction of
the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto Planning Authority be limited
to the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto or that, provided the
Planning Board Authority is not so limited, then each Municipality
affected have representation on the Board".
5. Solicitors for Crusader Development Corporation Limited ask approval
for permission to enlarge culvert on Pickering Beach Road to allow
for extra surface water to be channeled through.
6. Tenders for maintainer resulted as follows:

7. The westerly store of rour erected behind Sunset Inn is vacant and a Jeweller
wishes to start a store and live at rear. Store size, 20' X 60'. The
The Jeweller wishes Council's Permission to live at rear of store.
The Maintainer Salesmen were called in and told that, as a result of opening
Tenders; the Adams l23-H. P. and Catipillar, 115 H. P. machines were being
considered. All salesmen retired and Mr. Turnbull, for Adams, and Messrs.
Larry Hurd and McCulley, of Catipillar discussed their respective machines
prices, less recording Technomitor.
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that Engineer, Road Foreman, and ~
two operators investigate the Adams 123 H. P. and Catipillar 115 H. P. machines,
less the recording technomitor, and submit separate recommendations to Council.
Engineer advise Council members when inspection will be made so that any Council
member may go along. CARRIED
Councillor James reported for his Dog Control Committee and
~Q, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that Mr. Gerigs be permitted to act as Dog Catcher fÐ
the Town of Ajax on a three months' trial basis, that his salary be reduced $ 150.00
by Pickering Township, that he record the number of hours that he spends on Ajax
work for future consideration of Council, commencing April 1, 1957. CARRIED~'

Reeve Lawson advised that Mr. Murray of the Department of Planning and Development
was the person to contact in that Department, but it might be more desirable to
contact Metro Conservation Authority at Woodbridge re lake erosion. Clerk so
advise Rouge West Ratepayers' Association.
Mr. Kaskiw , builder, of West Rouge, asked that no assessment be made on houses
being built for 90 days after Building Permit obtained. Mr. Lawson to discuss
with Assessor.
~OVED by Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Mr. Godson contact Marshall,
Macklin and Monahan, to have proper culvert erected on Pickering Beach Road by
Crusader Development Limited to carry additional surface water rrom Ajax -
also investigate Shoal Point Bridge. CARRIED
~OVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that Township Council endorse
County of York resolution re Planning representation. CARRIED
~OVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Julian, that no action be taken on
application of Mr. Allerton to rent a store at Sunset Inn to a Jeweller, who
will live at rear of store, as there is no By-Law to prohibit. CARRIED

ror operation of a "driving school". Lives at Concession 2, Lot 28.
