A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the FOURTH day of MARCH, 1957
at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

February 4, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED

February 11, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Julian, that the Minutes of Meeting held
February 18, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, that the Minutes of' Meeting held
February 25, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that the Minutes of Meeting
held February 26, 1957, be adopted. CARRIED
The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. W.K. McLean - thanks for grant of $ 50.00 for boys' work in Fairport
Beach.
2. Village of___Port Credit_ endorsed Township resolution re local members on
Metropolitan Toronto Planning Board.
3. Town of Ajax endorsed Township resolution re local members on Metró-
politan Toronto Planning Board.
4. Town of Ajax request Township Dog Catcher be permitted to act for them
on part time basis.
5. !own of Aj~ willing to negotiate for use of' their fire hydrants on
.Harwood Drive.
6. By-Law Enforcement Officer's report for February, 1957.
7. Buitdi~n~ector's report for February. Twelve Permits, total,
¡-67,500.00. Four dwellings, average, $ 13,500.00 each.
8. Arthurÿarlton, Garbage Disposal Director, asked that his salary be increased
to $1,200.00 per year.
9. Garbajte Men asked for Ten Cents per hour increase to equal Road Men.
10. Petition from residents of Chesterton Shores requesting Canadian National
Railway fence their right-of-way beside their homes.
11. Petition from residents of Chesterton Shores asking direction for complaint
about lake erosion.
12. T. D. Thomas. M.P.P., advising Pickering Township grants from Province will 1
---¡ 3.35 rather than $ 1.85 per capita. '
13. Resolution from Township of North York requesting a Provincial-Municipal
Conference to work out division of responsibilities.for endorsement.
14. February tax collections, $ 22,858.49. Outstanding, $ 103,972.74.

MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. James, that Township Fire Committee meet
Fire Committee of Ajax for further negotiations. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Chapman, seconded by Mr. James, that Dog Control Committee bring
in a report on possibility of our Dog Cat,cher working with Town of Ajax part
timeconsidering time required for Ajax work, revision of salary, and care of
animals. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, that the salary of Arthur Carlton
be increased to .. 1,200.00 per year, as of April 1, 1957. CARRIED
MOV~ by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, that garbage men's salary be increased ~
from" 1.20 to $ 1.30 per hour with Allan Carlton, Foreman, being increased from
.. 1.25 to t 1.35" :per hour, as of March 1, 1957. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Council endorse Chesterton
Shores petition and forward same to Canadian National Railway. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Julian, that resolution of North York
Township which called for a Provincial-Municipal Conference, be èndorsed.

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Dog Control Committee purchase
necessary supplies, but from Pickering Township suppliers, if possible.

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that Council approve the following
road work done in 1956 to be added to 1956 Supplementary By-Law:
(1) Job No. 15 - Pine Grove Avenue cost Bulldozer grader work
- backhoe and gravelling ................................ t 5,891.90
(2) Job No. 30 - Concession 2 sideline between Lots 26-27,
Barclay draw gravel and cost of same ...................

Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Chapman, moves that By-Law Number 2220 to direct
the manner in which the Assessment Roll shall be prepared, and that same now be
read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Julian, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2220 be adopted, and that the said Bv-Law be now read
a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign same, and that the Seal
of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Julian, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to authorize the borrowing of $ 75,000.00 to carry current
Municipal expenses until taxes are paid, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2221 to borrow
$ 75,000.00 be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of
the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. James, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on Bv-Law Number 2221 be adopted, and that the said Bv-Law be now read a
Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same and the Seal of the
Corpora 11 on be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to levy a rate to cover the cost of the collection of
garbage in Area No.1 for the year 1957, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. Chapman, moves that By-Law Number 2222 to levy a rate t
cover the cost of the collection of garbage in Area No.1 for the year 1957, be
now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the B.y-Law as read.
Mr. Julian, seconded by Mr. James, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2222 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a
Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of
the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Chapman, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to regulate the erection and provide for the safety
of buildings and structures, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2223 to regulate the
erection and provide for the safety of buildings and structures, be now read a
second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thersn.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.

the Whole on By-Law Number 2223 be adopted and that the said By-Law be now read a
third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the
Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2224
Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
TQwnship of Pickering to levy a special rate on the taxable property in the
Police Village of Claremont, to defray the cost of street lights and other
special purposes in the said Village for the year 19~7, and that same now be
read a first time.

Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Chapman, moves that By-Law Number 2224 to levy a
special rate on the taxable property in the Police Village of Claremont~ to
defray the cost of street lights and other special purposes in the said Village
for the year 1957, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.

Whole on By-Law Number 2224 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a ThiJ
time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corpol

MOVED by Mr. Chapman, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that this Council do now adjourn to
meet again on Mofiky, the First day of April, 1957, at the hour of 8 P. M.
