The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Mr. Boucher, Department of Highways, advising that they will approve the
followiDg Road Expenditures for 1957: ConstructioD, $ 46,200.00, and
mairtenance, $ 76,100.00.
2. Resolutior of Council of County of Ontario that all hospitals be permitted
to charge Township actual indigent cost, less grants.
3. Messrs. Prouse and Thompson submitted report on
?~4, Lot 158, as to why it was condemned.

for 1957, which with debenture of $ 3,011.00, requires rate of 2.1 Mills.

The following PE~SON~, on MOTION, were heard:
1. Mr. Pope built a garage in Plan 418 - agreed not to live in it, then
immediately did so. Mr. Thompson ordered him to deposit $ 300.00 and
take out a building permit. Mr. Pope asked permission to live in
garage until he built a brick house iI, 1957. Council gave Mr. Pope
30 days to move or put up necessary deposit.
2. Mr._Percy_Compo~~ presented 1957 budget of $ 8,350.00, stating they (1)
included in budget moneys to pave entrance to Fire Station and paint
building. (2) asked that accounts be paid faster by Council as they
did not like second and third notices.
(3) Asked that like street names be changed to avoid confliction.
(4) Asked that hill west of Liverpool Overpass on Highway 401 be kept sanded
when necessary.
(5) Asked for a By-Law regulating installation of oil burners.

3. Mr. Tom Wheeler.: solicited grant for Ajax-Pickering General Hospital.
4. Mrs. Wheeler gave information re Ajax School for Retarded Children.
MOVED by Mr. Stewart, seconded by Mr. Scott, that all accounts of $ 25.00 ~,
or less for account of Fire Area No.1 be paid immediately by the Treasurer
on receipt of proper order and voucher. CARRIED
AGREEll that Mr. Thompson enforce Building By-Law in Courts in respect to
Mr. Flatman.
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that no further Building Permits ~ ~
be issued to Mr. Flatman. CARRIED
MOV~D by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Stewart, that a grant of $ 7,500.00 be
made to the Ajax-Pickering General Hospital for the year 1957, such sum to )... '3
ir1clu1e all Township of Pickering indigent patients' accounts for 1956 and
made payable in ten monthly payments of $ 750.00 each, commencing March 1,
1957.
MOVED by }1r. Scott, seconded by Hr. Juli.an that:
\~EREAS pursuant to The Planning Act, 1955, and pursuant to The Municipality
of Metropolitan Toronto Act, 1953, the Minister of Planning and Development
for the Province of Ontario has designated that the municipalities comprising ~ ~
the Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto and the suburban municipalities of
The Town of Ajax, The Townships of Markham, Pickering, Toronto, Toronto Gore
and Vaughan, and the Villages of Harkham, Pickering, Port Credit, Richmond
Hill, Stouffville, Streetsvilie, and Woodbridge, shall comprise the planning
area to be known as "The Metropolitan Toronto Planning Area".
AND WHEREAS pursuant to The Planning Act, 1955, and The Municipality of
Metropolitan Toronto Act, 1953, the Minister has designated the Municipality
of Metropolitan Toronto as the designated municipality within the meaning
of The Planning Act, 1955, with the power to appoint all the members to the
Metropolitan Toronto Planning Board.
AN~WHEREAS the ffiunicipalities included in the Metropolitan Toronto Planning
Area, but not included in the }funicipality of Metropolitan Toronto, are
vitally concerned with the poltcy of, and the decisions of the Metropolitan
Toronto Planning Board, but the said municipalities do not have any represen-
tation OJ1 the said Metropolitan Toronto Planning Board.
AND \~.EREAS it is considered necessary by the Council of the Municipal Corp-
oration of the Township of Picl{ering, one of the municipalities within the
Metropolitan Toronto Planning Area, that the Municipal Corporation of the
Township of Pickering and the other municipal corporations included in the
said Metropolitan Toronto Planning Area, but not included in the Municipality
of Metropolitan Toronto, should have representation on the Metropolitar
Tororto Planning Board in order to protect the local interests of the sajd
rnuricipalities and to assist to form planniJ1g policy for the whole of the
Metropolitan Toronto Planning Area.
NfJ'\v THEREFORE BE IT._Il.&~OLVED THAT the Council of the Corporation of the Towrl-
ship of Pickering petition the Minister of Planning and Development for the
Province of Ontario, to amend The Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto A~t,
1953, and The Planning Act, 1955, to enable those rnunicjpalities included in
the Metropolitan Toronto Planning Area presently having no representation
on the Metropolitan Toronto Planning Board, to have such representation on
the said Board.
AND BE IT.. FURTHER RESOLVED THAT copies of this resolution be forwarded to
the following municipal corporations which are included in the }fetropolitan
Toronto Planning Area but do not have representation on the said Metropolitan
Toronto Planning Board, with the request that the said municipalities endorse
and support this petition:
The Town of Ajax,
The Township of Markham,
The Village of Markham,

AGREED Hill rate for 1957 road expenditure shall be 7A Hills.

closing by the Department of Highways of Dixie Road and Fairport Beach
Road at Highway 401, and that Township be represented at Hearing by our
Solicitor. CARRIED

Council at Road Closing Hearing. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Chapman, that application be made to
the Department of Highways for grant on $ 211,325.37, which was spent by
our Road Department on Township roads in year of 1956. CARRIED
