A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY the TWENTY EIGHTH day of JANUARY.. 195'
at EIGHT O'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read
1. Ontario School Trus~ees and Ratepayers Association asking that Council
take out membership - no action
2. Salvation Army, requesting grant - given to Finance Committee
3. J. V. Ludgate. Municipal Engineer of Deparjlment of Highways approving
By-Law Number 2188 appointing R. G. Godson, Township Engineer but,
approving only $ 3,600.00 or 60% for road subsidy - Clerk point out to
Mr. Boucher actual time Mr. Godson spends on road work
4. Ajax & Pickering General Hospital _advising they will have a $15,120.00
deficit, so they arè soliciting grants frœm Municipalities of Pickering
.' , To\nf1ship, Pickering Village and Ajax to cover this amount.
5. Mills Spence & Co. offered~ 98.25 for~8.834.92~ 6% -20 Year Debencure
subject to the usual conditions.
6. Notice that Department of Highways that they Dropose to close all aPDroach4
to Highway # 401 from Lansing Clover Leaf to Liverpool Overhead, excepting
present overhead at Rougemount and level crossing at Moore Road, for which
they would provide the Township with a by-pass from Dixie Road to Fairport
Beach Road south of C.N. Railway. Last date for objections February 14th,
1957 for later Board hearing.
7. Pickerin% Beach Ratepayers Association submitted cost of $ 383.00 for
single garage 12' x 20' from Colonial Homes Limited and use unopened road
allowance beside Tulk's store for location.
8. Reeve Lawson s~bmi~ted a report of a Health Unit organization meeting held
in Pickering Village Hall January 24th, 1957. Expect Unit to be in oper-
ation May 1st, 1957 or June 1st, 1957. Should set Unit budget at $1.00
per capita for bålance 1957. Township of Pickering pay Unit expenses unti:
Unit organized. Expect other Municipalities to join later.
The following persons on motion were heard:
1. Mr. Taylor - Pickering Beach Ratepayers Association regarding garage for
fire equipment.
2. Mr. Baker - Liverpool Ratepayers Association re: garbage.
3. The road men asked Council that their wages be increased from $1.20 to
$i.30 per hour and Mr. Godson asked that Mr. Hicks wages as Road boss be
increased from $ 1.30 to $ 1.45 per hour.
4. Mr. Godson submitted a preliminary Budget of $ 231,400 which would require
a levy of 9 mills.

Moved by Mr. Scott seconded by Mr. Stewart that Clerk be authorized to
spend up to $ 350.00 for purchase of a single garage for fire equip-
ment at Pickering Beach.
Moved by Mr. James seconded by Mr. Pugh that Council pay Brougham Fire
Departmenr:r-50Õ:ÕO standby time per year plus $ 60.00 per call as of
January 1st, 1957 CARRIED
Moved by Mr. Scott seconded by Mr. Stewart that bid of' $ 98.25 for
~88,834.92 --6% ,1-20 years West Rouge water debentures by Mills Spence
be accepted by Council CARRIED

Messrs Chapman and Stewart reported they had met the Council of the
Town'of Ajax re: using Ajax Fire Hydrants on Harwood Drive in case of
fire, that they were well received and would meet their Fire Committee.
BY-LAW NUMBER 2186
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to authorize the borrowing of $ 88,834.92
upon debentures for the installation of a waterworks system, and that
same now be read a first time.
Mr. Pugh,seconded by Mr. Stewart moves that By-Law Number 2186 to authorize
the borrowing of $ 88,834.92 upon debentures for the installation of a water
works system, be now read a second time, and that Council go into committee
of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Julian moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law No. 2186 be adopted, and that the said By-Law now be
read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and
the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Mr. Sco~t, seconded by Mr. Stewart moves for leave to inbøoduce a By-Law
for the Reeve and Clerk of the Township of Pickering to sign agreements with
owners for the dedication of land to be used for road widening as required
by the Township of Pickering Planning Board , and that same now be read
a first time.
Mr. Scott seconded by Mr. Julian moves that By-Law Number 2212 for the Reeve
and Clerk of the Township of Pickering to sign agreements with owners for the
dedication of land to be used for road widening as required by the Township
of Pickering Planning Board , and that same now be read a Second time, and
that the Council go into Committee of the whole thereon.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh moves that'the Report of' the Committee of
the whole on By-Law Number 2212 be adopted , and that the said By-Law be now
read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign same , and the
Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
