PRESENT: William G. Newman, in the Chair William G. Lawson J. Sherman Scott Sidney S. J. Pugh L. T. Johnston, Clerk The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. DeD&rtment ot MuniciDal Affairs, advising that O. M. I. C. rates are now 5t-6-6t-6!%. 2. J. S. ChaDman, asking permission to move a tool shed, 12' X 14' to Township. 3. Solicitors for Lawrence Hay, advising they are taking action against Township and School Area 2 for injurY"in school yard. 4. Workm n's m ensation Board, advising that coverage on Voluntary Fireman oan be raised from 4,000.00 to $5,000.00. 5. Taxes Collected, November, $37,873.32. 6. Police Fines, November, $ 298.17. Total for 11 months, $4,100.00 7 . T·. M. Moore, report on out standing work. 8. Pickerin2 TownshiD Police Occurrences, November, 1956. 9. Notice Pickerin2 Villa£e has two used Fire Trucks tor sale. 10. Pickerin2 TownshiD Red Cross, requesting information re incoming Hungarian refugees. 11. Miller Pavin£ Limited, advising that they will sand same roads as last year at . 2.75 per ton (salt mixed 100 lbs. per ton) and truck and spreader at rate of $ 5.50 per hour. The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard: 1. Mr. Stenabou£h, of Fairport Road North, complained that Engineer had changed watercourse and let more water onto his lands. 2. Mrs. Gibb complained that Engineer had changed watercourse and let more water onto her lands. Mr. Godson agreed to meet them at 6 P.M. Wednesday. 3. Clifford Schwalm asked for three months'notice instead of one and one-halt months to terminate employment as Dog Catcher. It was AGREED that Township pick up all dog catching equipment on December 29th A.M. 4. Mr. Robert Watson agreed to submit price on December 28 for garbage contract. It was AGREED that Mr. Watson would continue to pick up gar..ge for January, 1957, for an extra $100.00 per week. 5. Mr. Godson submitted tenders covering the six roomed proposed school at Dunbarton for. 111,868.00. MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Push, that Clifford Schwalm be paid 1 56.25 in lieu ot l~ months' extra notice. CARRIED - 2 - MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Wednesday, December 26th, be proclaimed a Civic Holiday and that Staff work December 24th and 31st. êiRRIEj MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that motion to grant Pickering Beach Fire Brigade up to $100.00 for building to house fire equipment be rescinded ~:s~~;~~e~a~O:::ii.::~~~g for a pre-fab building of a size specified b~JRRIBD ~~ MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Newman, that Oshawa Hospital account of 1627.84 for Pickering indigent patients for period October 1, 1955 to September 30, 1956, be forwarded to the County of Ontario for payment. CARRIED AGREED that road in Plan 440 be re-built at cost of $3,884.00 under Local Improvement, three year, with abutting owners paying 100% ef cost. MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. PtJ«h, that approval be granted J. S. Chapman to move a building 12' X 14' from Ajax to Pickering Township to be used as a tool shed. CARRIED MOVED by Mr ~h, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that price of Miller Paving Limited of i2.7S per ton for sand and $5.50 per hour for truck and spreader be accepted for sanding certain roads in south part of Township when required for winter of 1956-1957, and that Road Department supply Council members with list of roads under this contract. BY-LAW NUMBER 2191 Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to provide for an additional supplementary expenditure on roads in the Township of Pickering, and that same now be read a first time. - 3 - By-Law Number 2191 (Continued) Mr. L8wson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2191 to provide for an additional supplementary expenditure on roads in the Township of Pickering, be now read ~ second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thersn. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2191 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2192 Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moyes for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to amend By-Law Number 2180, which authorized the sale of $60,000.00 debentures, and ttiat same now be read a first time. Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2192 to amend By- Law Number 2180, which authorized the sale of t 60,000.00 debentures, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Lawsn, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2192 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that By-Law Number 2193 to set a date for the first meeting of Council, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2193 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED (- CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS 1. Arrange meeting School Area 2 Board members and Mr. Godson re Tender for new school at Dunbarton. 2. Pay Greer Estate $250.00 and get two releases. 3. Get Desk Set inscribed for Dr. Tomlinson from Stan Martin of Whitby. 4. Ask Mr. Prouse to try and release $300.00 to John Campbell, White's Road. 5. Find out name .eat packing plant in Nelson Township, and advise Croxall, Hu. 1-3391. 6. Have Road Department scrap, Moore Road, Highway 2 to Bridge. 7. Get all possible information re Civil Defense from Civil Defense and Planning. 8. Arrange meeting re Hungarian assistance. AGREED Council meet December 28th at 3:30 P. M.
