The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1.
Joe Thompson, Concession 2, Lot 31, claimed he is a farmer on 36 acres
of land, 28 acres north of C. P. R. tracks, and 8 acres south, assessed on one
and asked that he be released of Garbage Collection charges.
Mrs. Margaret L. Newman, thanks grant, $25.00 for Crippled Children's
Fund.

South Pickering Ratepa~ers' Association, asking Council to attend
their Annual Meeting, onday, July 16, 1956, at 9 P. M. at Rosebank-
Rouge Community Hall to discuss taxes, roads and garbage.
W. B. Dunbar, objecting to paying garbage collection on Dunbarton house,
as he considers it part of the farm and he only uses it in summer months.
Department of Highways approved $74,400.00 Supplementary By-Law for
roads.

Dr. Clemmer - thanks for calcium on Concession 5, Lot 15.
H. B. Burritt - thanks for calcium on Concession 5, Lot 15.
Consumers' Gas Company - request for approval of laying 12" main on
Concession 1, from Scarborough Township to Dunbarton.

West Rouge Community Association, advising that their Association does
not favour the re-zoning of the Hughes and Parlette property in B.F. R.2,
Lot 35, from residential to Commercial.
South West Pickerinî Fire Department requesting Council's approval for
installation of a f ashing red light at entrance to Fire Hall on No. 2
Highway.

1. Mr. Lowe of the Ontario Fire Marshall's office, who recommended that if we
purchased fire fighting equipment for south east part of Township, such
equipment should meet standards of the Fire Unde~1ter's Association.
Agreed to make a survey of area immediately and report. Recommended our'
fire fighters take in fire fighting courses.
2. Messrs. Scott and McIntosh, owners of proposed subdivision, B.F. R.2, Lot
35, asked amount of Performance Bond required and submitted estimate of
$104,900.00, including legal fee~, surveys, etc~ Suggested $90,000.00.
Counc11 a~reed Mr. Ruddy check f1gures and accept his recommendation
(Figure, '100,000.00). ·
3. Edward Bennett asked about:
(1) House, corner Glen Allen and Glendale re placarding. Clerk call
Mr. Bennett on information from Mr. Prouse.
(2) Weeds. Now in Inspector's hands.
(3) His firm supplies trucks for fire fighting equipment.

4. Miss Sylvia Johnston applied for position of Typist.
Asked $1,900.00.
NO ACTION
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Joe Thompson's 28 acres north
of C. P. R. be excluded from Garbage Area. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Burwin Black be appointed
Assistant Dog Catcher to act for period July 12th to 15th, 1956 (during Mr.
Schwalm's holidays). CARRIED
Mr. Lawson reported the Health Unit, stated that all was in agreement with three
Municipalities and agreement was approved and would be signed.
AGREED that no action be taken to change zoning regulations in Rouge West.
BY-LAW NUMBER 2172
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to authorize the signing of an Agreement to con-
stitute a Health Unit comprising Pickering Township, Pickering Village and the
Town of Ajax, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2172 to authorize
the signing of an Agreement to constitute a Health Unit comprising Pickering Townshi~
Pickering Village and the Town of Ajax, be now read a second time ahd that Council
go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2172 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a
third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of
the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2173
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to take over certain cemeteries as Township property and
appoint a Township Cemetery Board, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2173 to take over
certain Cemeteries as Township property and appoint a Township Cemetery Board,
be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole
thereon.
The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2173 arises and reports the By-Law
as read.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that the
Whole on By-Law Number 2173 be adopted, and that the

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to amend By-Law Number 1904, which designates "Through Roads"
in Pickering Township and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2174 to amend
By-Law Number 1904, which designates "Through Roads" in Pickering Township, be
now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Eaw Number 2174 be adopted and that the said By-Law be now read a
Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of
the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Get Agreement between Township and Mr. Gottleib re Concession 3, Lots 19-20.
2. Contact Pow and Heron re Fire Area, south-east Pickering.
3. Get costs Dog Catcher for period January to July.
4. Advise Dog Catcher Township will not pay for Truck Flasher.
5. Advise South Pickering Ratepayers' Association that some of Council members
and others will attend their meeting July 16th, but it will be late as there is
a Council meeting that night.
6. Get Road Department breakdown of expenditures for first six months.
7. Get Mr. Ruddy to Attend Council July 16th and report on proposed gas
main on Concession 1.
8. Notify Police Department when proper signs erected at corner Island Road
and Rouge Hills Drive.
9. List of Road work for Mr. Ruddy.
On MOTION of Mr. Lawson the meeting adjourned.
