A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the ELEVENTH day of JUNE, 1956,
at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1.
Thomas Hudson, Concession 2, Lot 22, asked that he be excluded from the
Garbage Area. NO ACTION
Ernest Stroud claimed Garbage Collector did not call, so he hired Mr.
Irish. Mr. Watson claimed he never saw any garbage out for him, but
papers, which he picked up.
Si~ed petition to have Road Department take over roads in East Rosebank.
64% owners signed with 75% assessment.
Council agreed maximum frontage to be charged, 200 feet.
4. Pickerin~ Villa~e requested rates for Fire protection:

5. Members on Pickerin£ Villa£e Health Committee, Messrs. Morley and Cooper.
6. Wells Ritchie, of Whitevale, congratulated Road Department and Council
on excellent condition of roads.

The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1. James Carter and seven others presented a petition of 64 names asking that
action be taken by Council to improve the corner at Pine Ridge Crescent
and West Point Crescent, as it is a sharp turn and there have been six
accidents in past two years.
Council AGREED to erect a cable fence, possibly a white line on road, and
investigate the cost of a light.
2. Arthur Carlton - re Garbage Dump.
3. Messrs. McCallum and Martino discussed Blocks A, B. C. and D., Plan 612,
and the erection of approximately fifteen stores. They suggested that a
registered plan be not required, that a 66 foot road be built behind the
stores, that there be one septic tank bed, that the Township assume the
operation of septic tank bed and paved parking area after they have been
properly installed, that as long as possible the ownership remain with
one person.
Council AGREED that they would not accept ownership of the septic tank bed,
that there should only be one entrance and one exit and that owners should
re-draft the plan which had been approved by the Planning Board and present
it to them on June 15th.

4. Robert Watson discussed garbage collection:
(1) Agreed to accept the Assessment Rolls·,for number of houses served and
he would assist in check.
(2) Agreed he be paid twice monthly.
(3) He had endeavoured to pick up garbage in Chesterhill, but most roads
were under construction.
(4) Agreed to pick up commercial garbage twice a week for additonal fee /
of Five Dollars per location.
AGREED that maximum frontage for road improvement be 200 feet.
AGREED that there be no change in Garbage APea on Liverpool road north.
BY-LAW NUMBER 2171
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to re-locate the polling subdivisions in the said Town-
ship, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2171 to re-locate the
polling subdivisions in the Township of Pickering, be now read a second time,
and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawsn, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2171 to re-locate the polling subdivisions in the Township
of Pickering, be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a third time and
passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be
affixed thereto. CARRIED
CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1.
Advise James Carter of Council's decision re bad corner.

Write owners in Rosebank that, they require one more signature and explain
costs of Road Improvement Plan.
Re proposed South East Fire Area:
(1) Write West Rouge Fire Area, active persons on Harwood Drive, Pickering I
Village, Bickle Seagrave, cost land around Harwood Drive, cost building.

4. Advise East Woodlands Fire Department to call Pickering Village first for use
of resuscitator.
5. Try arrange Health Unit meeting for June 19th..; "If impossible, arrange for
June 14th.

6. Discuss Canadian National Railway water main crossing with Mr. Redfern.
7. Ask Mr. Goslin to meet Council in June re return of Roll.

8. Write Mr. Archibald of Highland Creek Sand and Gravel re assistance on
road maintenance (registered).
9. Draft resolution to Pro~ince for road maintenance by operators of gravel pits y
- include special subsidy.

AGREED that there will be a meeting on June 18th at 8 P. M. if new business
warrants it.
