fhe following CORRESPONDENCE was read
1. Mr. Harrison and others asked that a Township road be built to their Lots
Numbers 58, 59, 60, 61, Plan 284.
AGREED that Township would accept a road from present Taylor Road directly --
into the centre of the four lots provided it is 66 feet wide with a 100'
turn at end and that the owners assume cost of building same.

3. Buildin£ Permits issued in May - 38. Value, $ 315,800.00. Year to date,
¡ 1,047,450.00. 21 dwellings average, $ 12,400.00
4. Hydro-Electric Power Commission, acknowledging resol.tion that urban
users of Hydro in Rural Area be given a cost rate. Commission advises
that they can only use one rate in a Hydro area.
5. Minister of Hiihvays, advising that his Department is making a survey of
HighwaYfcNo. 2 relative to 30 Mile per hour speed limits.
6. Solicitor for Albert White Estate, Pickering Village , stated that his
client had received a Tax Deed from the Township in 1944, but had failed
to register and same cannot be located. Now asked for a new Tax Deed.
Council AGREED to issue same if our solicitor would approve and search,
and that the Estate pay all costs.
7. Application of Murray Powell, of Frenchman's Bay, for a Salvage License.
8. A. J. Thompson reported on application of L. Back for a Kennel License on
10 acres in south half of Lot 32, Concession 1, that he had contacted 8
neighbours and 6 of them were against the issuing of a license to Mr. Back
because of possible noise nuisance.
Council AGREED that license should not be issued.
9. Solicitor for James Torrens holding Township liable for his client's loss
of sale of lot due to a Tax Sale Deed error.
). Clerk reported that Dr. Struthers had approved a Health Unit comprising
Ajax, Pickering Village and Township - that it could commence August 1,
1956 if M. O. H. coµld be secured; they wou1d provide Public Health
Nurses and a Sanitary Inspector is available. The Board would consist
of 5 or 7 members and the cost would be levied on a per capita basis.
The staff would consist of one M. O. H., öne Sanitary Inspector, and
5 nurses.

Mr. Gerow, of Bert's Well Digging, asked permission to place a number of his
signs on Township roads.
Fred Wilson, Concession 5, Lot 34, asked under what conditions he could burn
rubbish.

James Torrens asked Council about a clear deed to his mother's lot at
Frenchman's Bay.
Stanley Mann asked if they could have a small water pump to hold fires until
the Fire Truck arrived. Council asked Mr. Mann to get prices on a complete
unit and that cost must be $500.00 or less.
Mr. Mann asked that "No Parking" signs be properly placed on both sides of
Shoal Point Road from Range Line to Lakeview Avenue and that a number of
10Sts be placed on south side of Lakeview Avenue at Shoal Point Road so cars
could not get past.
Mr. D. Goslin asked for more office space and an increase in salary and
permanent employment for Mr. Gliddoni recommended his salary be increased
to $ 3,000.00.
A. J. ThomÐson asked that Garbage Dump be kept open 24 hours a day 7
days a week.

rOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that no commercial signs be per-
litted on Township Road allowances and that existing commèrcial signs be
'emoved; only signs permitted will be directional' and road signs. CARRIED
nVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, that salary of William Gliddon be
ncreased $ 200.00, to $2,800.00\as of June 1st, and that he be permanently
mployed. CARRIED

Committee on WELFARE, as just read, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that the Reeve grant his order on the
Treasurer to pay the several accounts as presented and passed in the various reports
as passed this day. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2169
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township or Pickering to provide for a supplementary 1956 expenditure on roads
in the Township of Pickering in the County of Ontario, and that same now be read
a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2169 to provide
for a supplementary 1956 expenditure on roads in the Township of Pickering in the
County or Ontario, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee
of the Whole theren.

Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to inÐroduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to provide ror the collection or garbage and other refuseJ
and that same now be read a first time.
Mr·. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2170 to provide for the
collection of garbage and other refuse, be now read a second time, and that
Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2170 be adopted and that the said By-Law be now read a
third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of
the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Mr. Ruddy check for 30 Mile Speed Limit on Concession 2 east of Altona Road
and contact Proctor, Redfern and Laughlin re roads in Chesterhill Subdivision.
¿. Arrange a meeting of Messrs. Moore, Wootton and Torrens re Tax Deed.
3. Check with D. H. O. re meeting re erosion on By-~ass Road in Concession
Broken Front, Range 3, Lots 27 and 28.

A~vise Clifford Wells plastering must be done this week.
. Advise C. Schwalm that Morgandale is not private, and he shall investigate
dog complaints there as well as elsewhere.
Advise Robert Watson he should pick up papers from Dog Pound pens.
Advise C. Schwalm to release Westerman dog after 5 days impounding on
approval of Dr. Loos and production of inoculation for rabies certificate .

Get authority from Dr. Loos for holding a dog which has bitten a person 14
days, and when five day period used.
