A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the THIRTIETH day of APRIL, 1956,
at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

Mr. Colby was heard and stated that he operates a garage at corner Highway 2
and Brock Road, that it had been broken into a number of times, that he has a
good watchdog which bit a child on a bicycle on Sunday last and was picked up
by the Dog Catcher and is being held 14 days, that a month ago Dr. Loos gave
the dog an injection for rabies, that if Council would have the dog returned
to him he would keep tied up for 14 days, then have Dr. Loos examine for
rabies and pay the Dog Catcher his fees.
The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. H. E. P. C. acknowledgment letter contãining resolution that Hydro rates
in Urban Areas in Townships be considered with a view of lowering such
rates.
2. Oliver E. Crockford, asking that commission paid by this Township for
industry be specified.
3. Canadian National Railways, enclosing agreement whereby they will
permit the Township to place an 8" watermain under their tracks to our
pumphouse in the event the watermains should be washed out under bridge.
Clerk ask Mr. Redfern to try to get authority to do this work at pleasure
of Council, so as to eliminate a breakdown.
4. Mrs. D. B. Howard, Chesterton Shores, stating that their garbage had not
been picked up for two weeks. Garbage was picked up April·, 30th.
5. Solicitors for E. Menzel, Plan 377, Lot 107, asked that the house now
erected on the lot be exempt from By-Law Number 1787 insofar as setback
and sideyards are concerned.
6. Frank S. Barclay, stating he will pay $544.40 for 540 feet of gravel and
fill in sideline between Lots 4 and 5, Concession 5, and rebuild the road.
Council consider èn May 7th, after Mr. Ruddy discusses with Mr. Barclay.
7. The following prices for weed spray were received:

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Council purchase $1,000.00 worth
Shell Weed and Brush Spray from Shell Oil Company at prices quoted. CARRIED
8. The following prices for Calcium Chloride were received for Bulk Flake
20 ton cars to Port Union.

MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that quoted price of $40.10
per ton Bulk Calcium Chloride laid on Township roads as Pe,aiFed by

'Ian 377, is erected in error 4.56" too close to street line and 1.1' too close

OVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that in view of the fact that the Colby
og has had rabies shots a month ago and in view of the fact that it is a watch
og and since the owner has agreed to have the dog tied up for the next 14 days,
nd since the owner has agreed to have Dr. Loos inspect the dog at the end of the
4 day period, therefore the dog be returned to Mr. Colby by the Poundkeeper on
ayment of the fees due. CARRIED

Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to regulate the excavations for building, and
that same now be read a first time.
Mrs. MCPherson, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that By-Law Number 2167 to
regulate the excavations for building be now read a second time and that
Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to license Boarding Homes, and that same now be

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2168 to license
Boarding Homes be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2168 to license Boarding Homes be adopted, and
that the said By-Law be now read a third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and
Clerk sign the same and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.

CLERK'S 1ft; TRUCTIONS
1. Have Mr. Schwalm pick up loose dogs in Clark's Hollow subdivision,
especially those belonging to Jackson, Raycroft Farm and Sypher.
2. Have Mr. Thompson post signs in Clark's Hollow to effect that "dogs may
not run at larg~~
3. Get letter frouCToronto Humane Society stating that dogs may be killed
by gasoline fumes.
4. Advise Mr. H. V. Shipley that the policy of the Township is that no further
Township roads be olesed. ~ -
5. Have Proctor, Redfern and Laughlin endeavour to get proposed agreement
with Canadian National Railway changed so that a watermain may be
placed under the tracks direct to pumphouse "before pipe is washed
away under C. N. R. bridge" so that water services will not be disrupted.
6. Have copies of Mr. A. J. Thompson's reports typed for Council members
and persons who are aggrieved.
7. Arrange meeting with Ontario Municipal Board re a proposed $1,700,000.00
debenture for services for industrial area on receipt of water and sewer
reports from Councillor Lawson.
3. Ask Frank Routley, J. Pemberton Piggott, Lou Sherry, K. ð: Clarke, to
sit on Industrial Committee.
~. Have Mr. Ruddy get easement from Mr. Benham, Concession 1, Lot 30, and
ditch when dry.
). Get Nicholson letter re Taxi Stand at Crook's Service Station from
Mrs. Dandie.
