An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH day of
MARCH, 1956, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. DeDartment of Hi~hwaYs, advising they will instal a Flasher Light at
corner of Highway 2 and Liverpool Road.
2. A. H. Richardson, Department of Planning and Development, advising that
they will hold up Bill 58, which would amalgamate R. D. H. P. with
greater Toronto Conservation until our Board has had a chance to
present objections.
3. Edna L. Moore, Department of Health, advising that their Department
would not ask two of their graduate Public Health Nurses to take over
health work in Pickering Township without experience, that few of them
have ears, and that salary scale for graduates is $ 2,700.00 to $3,000.00,
with experienced heads expecting $3,500.00 to $3,600.00 per year.
Recommended advertising for experienced Head.
Mr. Roy Ward was heard and asked that his account for $ 166.66 for 13 days
work on 1955 books be paid.
Mr. ComDort, of Fire Area 1, asked that account for $108.&6 for 1955 Christmas
Party for children, be paid.
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Roy Ward be paid $166.66,
being payment for 13 days of work in February, 1956, for completing closing
of 1955 Road Books. CARRIED

NAYS: Mrs. McPherson
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that a grant of $ 108.14 be
given to Fire Area No.1 in lieu of paying account for $ 108.14 submitted
for 1955 Christmas toys.for East Woodlands children and that'such expenditures
in future be approved by Council before commitments. CARRIED
AGREED owners of dogs held 14 days for biting shall pay Dog Catcher's fees.
AGREED Road Department grade Plan 345 when required for One Dollar.
BY-LAW NUMBER 2158
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to assess the Municipality for the improvement
and repair of roads and bridges; payment of salaries; the general expenses
of the Corporation; to defray the cost of Welfare; for the Municipality's
share of the cost of roads and general purposes of the County of Ontario and
to pay the Township's share of the cost of operations of the Pickering
District High School Board for the year 1956, and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2158 to
assess the Municipality for the improvement and repair of roads and bridges;

purposes of the County of Ontario, and to pay the Township's share of the
cost of operations of the Pickering District High School Board for the year
1956, be now read a second time and that Council go into Committee of the
Whole thereon.

The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2158 arises and reports the By-Law
as read.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2158 be adopted; that the said By-Law be now read a
third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same and the seal of
the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2159
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. MCPherson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to assess the Separate School Supporters in the Town-
ship of Pickering to provide funds for the purposes of the Roman Catholic
Schools in the year 1956, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2159 to assess the
Separate School Supporters in the Township of Pickering to provide funds for the
purposes of the Roman Catholic Schools in the year 1956, be now read a second
time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Scott, seoortded by Mr. Lawson, moves that the report of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2159 be adopt.ed; that the said By-Law be
time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same and the
Corporation be affixed thereto.
