An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on TUESDAY, the THIRTEENTH day of
~CH, 1956, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Letter from DeDartment of Highways stating that the Township 1956 Road
Appropriation By-Law shall not exceed 1 71,000.00 for maintenance and
t 42,000.00 for construction.
2. Board of Health recommended 10% increase in salary for all Health employees.
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that Mr. Ward's service
as Bookkeeper for the Road Department be not required after April 30, 1956,
and that notice be given Mr. Ward immediately to this effect. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2152 (Third Reading)
The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2152 arises and reports the By-Law
as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2152 to divide the Township into Wards, be adopted, and
that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and
Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.

BY-LAW NUMBER 2153
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to provide for the total 1956 expenditure on roads in the
Township of Pickering in the County of Ontario, and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that B,y-Law Number 2153 to provide for
the total 1956 expenditure on roads in the Township of Pickering in the County of
Ontario, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the
Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By~Law as read.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2153 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read
a third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of
the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2154
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to provide for a Supplementary 1956 Expenditure on roads
in the Township of Pickering, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. MCPherson, moves that By-Law 2154 to provide for a
supplementary 1956 expenditure on roads in the Township of Pickering, be now
read a second time, and that council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.

as read.

BY-LAW NUMBER 2155
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to appoint an employee to act as Bookkeeper, Chainman,
Rodman and Draftsman for the Road Department for the year 1956, and that same
now be read a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2155 to appoint an
employee to act as Bookkeeper, 6hainman, Rodman and Draftsman for the Road Depart-
ment for the year 1956 be now read a second time and Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2155 arises and reports the By-Law
as read.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2155 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read
a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal o£
the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2156
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to regulate, manage and control the Waterworks system in
Water Area Number 1, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2156 to regulate, manage
and control the Waterworks System in Water Area Number 1 be now read a second time,
and Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2156 arises and reports the By-Law
as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the
Whole on By-Law Number 2156 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a
third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of
the Corporation be affixed thereto. , CARRIED
CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Ask Roy Ward number of days he expects to spend on Road books in March.
Information for March 19, 1956.
2. Prepare new Culvert By-Law. Township cost of installation, $ 58.00.
3. Have Mr. Prouse supply all applicants for Building Permits with copies of
Septic Tank By-Law and Culvert By-Law.
4. Have Treasurer pay Robert Watson twice per month for several months.
