An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the TWELFTH day of MARCH,
1956, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. A. C. Dear, objecting to Collector's use of Mr. Shingler on his third
instalment payment of 1955 taxes.
2. Ontario and York Counties Film Council - request for grant. (1955, $25.00)
3. Mrs. R. H. Barton - application Typist.
4. Mrs. Betty Iyes - application Typist.
5. P. C. Christoffersen - no objeotion F. S. Barclay ope.'*g Grayel Pit
in Concession 5, Lot 5. Thinks he should be bonded to level pit when
worked out.
6. Charles Wilcox - no objection to F. S. Barclay opening a Gravel Pit in
Concession 5, Lot 5, and will shorty make application for Gravel Pit

The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:
1.
Arthur Carlton asked that he be given sole scrap rights in dump except
for Mr. Watson.

Mrs. R. H. Barton, applying for position of typist.
Mrs. McEwen, Fairport Beach, objecting to vater on her lot and asked that
her driveway be re-gravelled by the Township.
Clifford Schwalm asked for nine new dog pens at cost of $ 143.00 to bring
his pens up to 17 and three eat boxes to hold eats who have bitten persons.
Would be interested in full time position as dog catcher if Whitby, Ajax
and Pickering Village and Township were his area, and asked that all dogs
be inocculated when taken from Pound. Agreed to make the cat boxes if
Council purchase the materials.

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Mr. Schwalm get material for
three cat boxes. CARRIED
MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Scott, that Arthur Carlton be granted
exclusive rights to scrap at dump except Mr. Watson. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Mr. Synott be authorized to
build nine moveable dog pens on Mr. Schwalm's property for price of $143.00.

MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Mrs. Barton be engaged
as typist at $ 1,900.00 per year to start March 15, 1956. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, that permission be granted F. S.
Barclay to open a Gravel Pit in Concession 5, Lot 5, providing he adhere to
By-Law re levelling when abandoned. CARRIED
MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Scott, that 1956 Kennel License be
granted John Pearson, Concession 3, Lot 19. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that a grant o~ $ 25.00 be
given to Ontario-York Counties Film Council ~or 1956. CARRIE~
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, that notice be given the trustess
of the Police Village of Claremont that the Council of the Township of
Pickering wish to terminate their agreement signed March 9, 1908, in favour
of a new agreement, as the present one is now outdated, as requested by
Auditors. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that the following accounts

Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to levy a special rate on the taxable property
in the Police Village of Claremont, to defray the cost of Street Lights and
other special purposes in the said Village in the year 1956, and that same
now be read a first time.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2145 to levy
a special rate on the taxable property in the Police Village of Claremont,
to defray the cost or Street Lighting and other special purposes in the said
Village in the year 1956, be now read a second time, and that Council go
into Committee of the Whole thereon.

provisions of the Weed Control Act, in the Township of Pickering, during the
year 1956, and that same now be read a first time.

and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.

Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to assess the Municipality of the Township of
Pickering, including the Police Village of Claremont, for a General Public
School Rate to provide funds for the Township Statutory Grants to Public
Schools in the year 1956, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2150 to
provide funds for the Township Statutory Grants to Public Schools in the
year 1956, be now readda second time, and that Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.

Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to provide for the inclusion of poultry under the
Livestock Protection Act, and that same now be read a first time.

provide for the inclusion of poultry under the Livestock Protection Act, be
now read a second time and Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.

the Whole on By-Law Number 2151 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be
now read a third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same,

CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Write Ajax-Pickering Village-Whitby if they would be interested in one
full time Dog Catcher with Pickering Township.
2. Advise Mr. Boucher Council meeting June 5th, 10 A. M. to 5 P. M.
3. Prepare agreement with Claremont Village.
4. Get one central Animal Pound.
5. Advise Mr. Orchard account for $ 108.14 for Christmas toys given away
at Firemen's party cannot be paid.
6. Estimate cost of Water Area work to be charged to area.
7. Arrange meeting Commercial By-Law March 20th or 22nd.
