An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY the TWENTY-SEVENTH day of
FEBRUARY~ 1956, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

Messrs. ComDort. Skidmore and Orchard submitted the estimates of Fire Area
No. 1 for 1956 with breakdown as follows:

MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Township road rate be .in-
creased not more than .5 Mills to 7.5 Mills. WITHDRAWN
MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that a calculator be purchased
for the office at a price of $ 1,050.00, less 10%. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that the Pickering Drilling
Company be called in to rix any breaks in the West Rouge Water System at the
discretion of either Mr. Ferguson or Mr. 8e8~t~~ CARRIED
Mr. Scott' reported he had attended the County of Ontario Fire organization
meeting at Oshawa on February 24th that it was primarily for Civil Defense
organization, but a suggested By-Law would permit any Fire Department to
cross Municipal boundary lines.
Council agreed to meet Mr. Krappa, Pickering Beach, on March 15th.
It was AGREED that the cost of building sidewalks should be charged against
an a~&a with the owners abutting paying an extra frontage tax rate.

Clerk to prepare a By-Law regulating garbage.
Clerk to get approval of Department of Municipal Affairs and Department of
Highways for issuance of $ 73,338.00 - 5 year - debentures covering cost of
Gradall, Front End Loader and 22,580 feet of road paving.
BY-LAW NUMBER 2140
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to provide for the total 1956 expenditure on
roads in the Township of Pickering in the County of Ontario, and that same now
be read a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2140 to provide for
the total 1956 expenditures on roads in the Township of Pickering in the County
of Ontario, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of
the Whole thereon.

The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2140 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now
read a third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same and the
Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves for leave to introduc~ a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to define an area in the Township of P.ckering and
provide for the collection, removal and disposal by the Township of Picæring
of garbage, ashes and other refuse in said area and to provide for the im-
position upon the land in said area according to its assessed value, of a
special rate to defray the expense of such collection, removal and disposal,
and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2141 to define an
area in the Township of Pickering and provide for the collection, removal and
disposal by the Township of Pickering of garbage, ashes and other refuse in
said area and to provide for the imposition upon the land in said area
according to its assessed value, of a special rate to defray the expense of
such collection, removal and iisposal, be now read a second time, and that
Council go into Committee of the Whole thereoR.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2141 be adopted and that the said By-Law be now
read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the
Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-I~w of the
Township of Pickering to appoint members to the Township of Pickering Recreation
Committee, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2142 to appoint
members to the Township of Pickering Recreation Committee be now read a
second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2142 arises and reports the By-
Law as read.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2142 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now
read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and
the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to 1ntroduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to assess POLICE AREA NUMBER ONE for rates for the
year 1956, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that By-Law Number 2143
to assess POLICE AREA NUMBER ONE for rates for the year 1956, be now read a
second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2143 be adopted; that the said By-Law be now read a
third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same and the Seal
of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

of the Township of Pickering to "levy a rate to cover the cost of operation of
the several Fire Departments, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves that By-Law Number 2144 to levy a
rate to cover the cost of o~ration of the several Fire Departments, be now
read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole therøn.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2144 be adopted; that the said By-Law be now read a
third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same and the Seal
of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
