PRESENT: William G. Newman, in the Chair William G. Lawson J. Sherman Scott Sidney S. Pugh Mrs. Jean McPherson L. T. Johnston, Clerk The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. T. M.Moore. Advice that sidewalks and street lights may be installed and charged to an area such as a School Area or Ward without petition or any approval if no debentures. 2. Chief of Police yearly report. 3. Police Commission - 1956 Budget - $ 45,911.03. . 4. Chief of Police - January - Report of Occurrences. 5. T. Viarosynski - request for a Rifle Club Permit, east of Frenchman's Bay on Beach for five members. AGREED permission be not granted. 6. Joe ChamDion Concession 6, Lot 20, applied for a Garage Operator's License. 7. Bill Ellicott applied for assistant position to Mr. Ruddy. 8. Clifford Dunkeld applied for assistant position to Mr. Ruddy. 9. Hazel Sanderson applied for position of typist and switchboard operator. Typing not good enough. 10. L. A. BoucherA advising that he has received a copy of our resolution purchasing a 4 ton pick-up truck, but he will only approve the price of the lowest Tender. 11. Glenn Julian, Campaign Chairman Red Cross, soliciting a grant. 12. Messrs. McGra~h and O'Shea, Solicitors for Rougedale Construction Company, complained about drainage, in Plan 612. The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard: 1. Bill Ellicott, applying for Assistant position to Mr. Ruddy. 2. Clifford Dunkeld, applying for Assistant position to Mr. Ruddy. 3. Oliver Crockford. asking that Council use his services as Municipal Consultant and Industrial Promotor. I" 4. Robert Watson submitted a proposed Garbage Collection route. Stated he could be bonded for $ 10,000.00 for $ 100.00 per year, with two trucks and four men on March 1, 1956. Council AGREED that Goldman Camp and Mutual Benefit Society could be charged on 50% of assessment if they only operated during summers. 5. E. G. Baker, re purchase of calculator. MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Clifford Dunkeld be employed as assistant to Mr. Ruddy at $ 1.00 per hour, to commence about March 5, 1956. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that Robert Watson be employed to collect the garbage in the Municipal Garbage Area at a price of $ 5,00 per house, that he supply the Township with a Performance Bond in the amount of $10,000.00, that he collect from all houses and stores once a week, that Township hold his Truck Insurance Policies in amount of 2/10/20, that he be I entitled to all salvage picked up en route for his private use, that Clerk have Mr. Moore prepare an Agreement and that Clerk notify all persons in the area about the collection. CARRIED I . - 2 - MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Joe Champion be granted a Garage License. CARRIED CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS 1. Ask A. J. Thompson about acting as Bailiff for collection of taxes. 2. Ask Bill Ellicott about acting as steno-switchboard operator. 3. Call for Tenders for sidewalks for Fairport Road North and Altona Road. Pickering News; Enterprise; Stouffville Tribune; Daily Commercial News. 4. Call for applications for Stenographer. Three Toronto Papers. On MOTION of Mr. Lawson, the meeting adjourned.
