PRESENT: Wm. G..Newman, in the Chair Wm. G. Lawson J. Sherman Scott Sidney S. Pugh Mrs. Jean McPherson L. T. Joh~ston, Clerk The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. R. D. H. P. Minutes, December 14, 1955. 2. Metro Toronto Industrial Commission notice. Annual meeting Wednesday, February 1, at 2:30 P. M. AGREED Mr. Lawson attend. 3. A. Archibald, Public School Inspector. Letter of appreciation for services of C. A. Sterritt as School Attendance Officer. 4. Rou~edale Construction COmDany Limited, Plan 612. Notice that they will hold Township responsible for drainage damage as they claim additional water is turned on them by the Township. Clerk advise that Chesterhi1l Developments Limited are responsible. 5. Mrs. Mildred Funston, Secretary Rosebank-Rouge Community Association. Thanks for efforts re rink. 6. T. M. Moore. Advice that Council may refuse to renew a license (Wrecking) without reason. 7. R. J. Davey, objecting to a gravel pit being started close to their home in Concession 1, Lot 31. 8. A. J. Kormos, objecting to a gravel pit being started close to their home in Concession 1, Lot 31. 9. A'ax Pickerin T own shi 30,000.00 and asking deficit. ita1, advising that they have a dèficit of Pickering Township assist them in meeting the 10. Mr. Fiorini, owner of 67 acres in Concession 2, Lot 25, asked permission to operate "Skeet Guns". Council agreed that it not be permitted. The following PERSONS on MOTION were heard: 1. W. H. Westney reported to Council on R. D. H. P. Authority as one of the Township representatives. 2. T. M. Moore discussed: (1) Garbage - lee,Section 86 - Assessment Basis. (2) Wrecking License. Council not required to issue renewal, but con- templated Court Action if license not issued. (3) Regulation of gravel pits. Would prepare By-Law for February 6th. (4) Agreed to prepare Zoning By-Law for Township to restrict all lands to present use. 3. Mr. Christoffersen re Wrecking Yard, Concession 5, Lot 5. 4. Mr. Lloyd Peters agreed to discuss and prepare Brochure for Pickering Township. 5. W. H. J. ThomDson agreed to sit on an Industrial Sub Committee. - 2 - 6. Mr. Glenn Julian agreed to sit on an Industrial Sub Committee. MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the request of Ajax-Pickering Township Hospital for grant be passed on to Finance Committee for study, then meet with members of Council of Ajax and Pickering Village for agreement. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Clerk prepare garbage area, advertise for Tenders for collection of garbage as one area, write all former tenderers, and get their background and include William Jackson, for Feb, 6. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that a Wrecking Yard License renewal be granted Charles Wilcox on Concession 5, Lot 5, providing he will sign an agreement: (1) That no trees will be cut on his property closer than 500 feet from his westerly boundary. (2) That he will plant three rows of trees 10 feet apart near the north, east and south boundaries of his lands before May 31, 1956, said trees to be not more than 10 feet apart in each row and (3) That the Wrecking Yard shall never in future years be larger than five acres in area. CARRIED YEAS: Messrs. Scott, Newman, Pugh and Mrs. McPherson NAYS:' Mr. Lawson The Reeve named the following ratepayers as a Sub Committee of the Council's Industrial Committee to work with the Committee on Industrial Promotion of the Township: Messrs. W. S. Saunders, Glenn Julian, Albert Bannock, S. Stephenson, W. H. J. Thompson, Charles F. Keen, Mr. E. Nerlich, David A. Donaldson, and Allister Grosart. Clerk ask above members if they would act on such a Committee. AGREED that Reeves of Ajax, Pickering Village and Pickering Township meet and discuss fire areas. Clerk arrange. AGREED that Township sand W. H. Moore's private road after Township roads are done, and bill submitted to Mr. Moore. MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that resignation of Winifred Walker, Public Health Nurse, effective June 30, 1956, be accepted. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, that licenses be granted the following Garage and Gasoline Station Operators for the year 1956; BY-LAW NUMBER J. E. Brignall - Gasoline Service Station Claremont Garage - Garage J. Bradshaw & Son - Garage (2 Readings) CARRIED Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to divide the Township into Wards, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that By-Law Number to divide the Township into Wards, be now read a second time and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS Get manner of Townships of Scarborough and Trafalgar on Garbage Collection, and inquire if farms are exempt. l 1 · l l I I '> .....
