PRESENT: Wm. G. Newman, Wm. G. Lawson, J. S. Scott, S. S. Pugh, Mrs. J. McPherson The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. Russell Fer~uson asked for additional payment for services as Water Maintenance Man, as he has worked almost full time since December 1, 1955. 2. HosDital for Sick Children asked for a grant. 3. Miss W. Walker tendered her resignation as Public Health Nurse as of June 30, 1956. AGREED Miss Walker meet Council re replacement. 4. Oliver E. Crockford made application to serve the Township as Municipal Consultant. TABLED 5. Wells Ritchie thanked Council for appointment to Planning Board for term 1956 and 1957, and accepted. 6. R. D. H. P. Conservation Authority commended Council for their prompt action re control measures of Duffin's Creek south of Riverside, and wished to draw to Council's attention the fact that they are prepared to assist financially in purchase and removal of dwellings in flood area. 7. Brooklin Junior Farmers asking for 1955 grant. 8. Police fines, December, 1955 - $ 429.83. 9. Miller Pavin~ Limited submitted a quotation for the supplying and sanding of Township roads: Supplying salt treated sand, $ 2.50 per ton with (a) 8 yard truck, $5.00 per hour extra (b) 5 yard truck, 4.00 per hour extra The following PERSONS on MOTION, were heard: 1. Delbert Goslin asked: (a) Clerk be directed to levy taxes for 1956-1955-1954 on 10 extra acres of land for John Burrows, Concession 6, Lot 35, as they had been in error on their acreage assessed. NO ACTION (b) That Mr. A. J. Thompson be directed to assist the Assessment Department when free. AGREED Mr. Thompson meet Council at next meeting. (c) That the Assessment Department be given the Public Health Nurse's room when Miss Walker leaves. 2. Messrs. Christoffersen. Arthur O'Connor and William Brown objected to a Wrecking License being granted Wilcox on Concession 5, Lot 5. 3. Oliver Crockford spoke on behalf of Charles Wilcox and asked that he be granted a Wrecking License on Concession 5, Lot 5. 4. Mr. Ted Bennett asked: (1) That Council be aggressive in getting industry and recommended that Mr. Crockford be hired as industrial promoter. (2) Garbage. Would consult his Association on February 13th if they wished a change from private to Munfuipal pick-up. (3) House, south-west corner Glendale and Glenallan half built, abandoned for past year. Clerk get Building Inspector's report. (4) Street Signs received. Will be erected in Spring. - 2 - 5. Clifford Schwalm stated that (1) Toronto Humane Society advised that there are cases of Rabies in dogs and rabbits near the Toronto Area and recommended that a By- Law be passed requiring all dogs who have bitten and drawn blood on persons be held 12 days for inspection. (2) Mr. Schwalm suggested that Council instal a Toronto telephone for him as more phones in south-west area are being transferred to Toronto. He is to get the price of a phone for Council's consideration. (3) That cardboard signs regarding dogs running at large be replaced with metal signs. Clerk get prices. (4) That Council provide him with heavy wire for two more dog pens. 6. W. H. J. ThomDson recommended: . (1) Land use By-Law (2) Industrial paid officer. (3) Police Commission abandoned. 7. Brian Ruddy stated that Miller Paving Company had agreed to crush a further 10,000 yards gravel @ 50¢ per yard MOVED by Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mrs.~cPherson, that Township grant $ 2~~0 to the Brooklin Junior Farmers' Association. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that as Judge Pritchard is ill and Magistrate Ebbs is on holidays, that if necessary the Reeve be authorized to purchase a new car for the Police Department. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that request for grant to Hospital for Sick Children be tabled. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that Russell Ferguson be paid an additional, $ 75.00 for December, 1955, plus $ 75.00 for January, 1956, as he has been working almost full time. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that the Road Superintendent ask Miller Paving to sand south west area of the Township with one large truck after next time we have icy roads, as an experiment, at quoted price of $2.50 per ton and $5.00 per hour. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2133 Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to license, regulate and govern hawkers and pedlars, and that same now be read a first time. - 3 - By-Law Number 2133 (Continued) Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2133 to license, regulate and govern hawkers and pedlars be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mrs. McPherson, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2133 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and theySeal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2134 Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to appoint a member of Council to the Board of Directors of the Ajax and Pickering Township General Hospital, and that same now be read a first time. Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2134 to appoint a member of Council to the Board of Directors of the Ajax and Pickering Township General Hospital, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the report of of the Whole on By-Law Number 2134 be adopted and that the said read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. the Committee By-Law be now same and the CARRIED ..BY-LAW NUMBER 2135 Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, maes for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to appoint two members to the Board of Health for the Municipality of the Township of Pickering for the year 1956, and that same now be read a first time. ¥r. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2135 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2136 to appoint members to the Rouge, Duffin, Highland and Petticoat Conservation Authority, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number to authorize the borrowing of $ 60,000.00 upon debentures for School Purposes be now read a second time, and the Council go into Committee of the Whole therÅ“n.
