HomeMy WebLinkAboutOctober 24, 1955 MUNICIPAL B U I L DIN G BROUGHAM An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on TUESDAY the TWENTY-FIFTH day of OCTOBER, 1955, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening. PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the Chair Wm. G. Newman Sidney S. Pugh J. Sherman Scott Roy Ward Brian Ruddy Douglas P1itz D. F. Goslin L. T. Johnston, Clerk The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. Mrs. L. Wheeler, Pickering Branch, Red Cross, thanks for use of Council Chambers and room for storage of Red Cross Supplies. 2. R. D. H~. - copy Minutes September 23, 1955. 3. Fines, September, 1955 - $ 578.43. 4. C. R. Magone, Department Attorney General, advising they will consider a Magistrate's Court at Pickering Village. (Mr. Donald, of that Department, met the Clerks of Pickering Village, Ajax and Pickering Township at Pickering Village on October 17, was satisfied with location and thought it could be arranged). 5. W. A. Demvsey, President Centennial Committee and Recreation Association, asked Pickering Township Council to meet Scarborough Township Council re paving of Scarborough Town Line. See 1956 Council. 6. Devartment of Hi~hways approved paying 50% cost of sidewalk at Petticoat Creek up t~ 3,449.99 as their share. 7. Proctor. Redfern and Lau~hlin, advising that C. N. R. have refused Council permission to lay watermains under their track to our Pump House so they have applied for permission to cross C. N. R. under their Duffin Creek Bridge. 8. Proctor. Robert Balsdon asked Council to pass By-Law to include Fowl under Livestock protection Act, as he recently lost fowl to value of $ 75.00 Mr. Burnett of Fairport Beach was heard re right-of-way over Hughson lot. Mr. Newman agreed to meet three owners and discuss their private rights-of-way. CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS 1. Ask Markham Township to improve Town Line at Seebeck Hill. < 2. Phone Oshawa Manager Bell Telephone about our Police getting the Atlantic \ phone installed. - 2 - Clerk's Instructions (Continued) 3. Ask Spaedman of Markham to cover his garbage truck and be careful not to scatter refuse all along the road. , 4. Call for Tenders for three garbage areas. 5. Ask Mr. Redfern to meet Council October 31st at 8 P. M. Get ruling on ( flankage of lots for water cost and if maximum for frontage on Registered Plans. BY-LAW NUMBER 2115 Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to authorize the borrowing of $ 89,345.00, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law Number 2115 to authorize the borrowing of $ 89,345.00 be now read a second time and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2115 be adopted and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2116 Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to provide for the nomination and election for school trustees for school areas Numbers 1 and 2 and to provide for Polling Locations, Deputy Returning Officers and Poll Clerks to take the Poll of the ratepayers at the same time as the Poll is taken for the Reeve, Deputy-Reeve and three Councillors for year 1956, and that same now be read a first time. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2117 Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to appoint an Engineer for the Township of Pickering, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves that By-Law Number 2117 to appoint an engineer for the Township of Pickering be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that By-Law Number 2118 to take over and assume as Township roads parts of certain roads in Plan 377, be now read a second time and Council go into Committee of the Whole therÅ“n. The Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2118 arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the Report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2118 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.
