PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the Chair Wm. G. Newman Wm. G. Lawson Sidney S. Pugh J. Sherman Scott T. M. Moore, Solicitor Brian Ruddy Douglas Piitz L. T. Johnston, Clerk The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 1. Letters of recommendation as to Dr. Bernhardt's ability as a Town Planner: (a) T. A. C. Tyrrell, Department of Planning and Development. (b) Murray Jones, Metro Toronto. (c) R. C. Ballard, Central Mortgage and Housing (d) C. J. Laurin, Markham Planning Board 2. Pickerin~ Hi~h School, requesting permission for their Social Studies Department, canvassing for funds for United Nations International Childrens' Emergency Fund. 3. T. M. Moore - resolution to dispense with vote for Consumers Gas license to operate. 4. Petitio~ of twenty names against wrecking yard at Concession 4, Lot 22. 5. Police Occurrence Report for September, 1955. 6. Ellis price on sodding: Rosebank Road North (Hill) 425 square yards @ 35¢ Staking Police Station 980 yards @ 35¢ 13 Trees & Shrubs $ 148.75 11.25 $ 160.00 340.00 50.00 $ 390.00 The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard: 1. Mr. Foster, of Taitwood, re garage. 2. Mr. Allison, re Wrecking Yard, Concession 4, Lot 22. AGREED objections be heard by Council. 3. Mr. T. M. Moore discussed the Polanyi 'action against the Council. MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Scott, that Township put in culvert in front of Polanyi residence, as suggested by Mr. Ruddy, and that a settlement be arranged out of Court, with damages not to exceed $25.00 and costs. CARRIED -..-- - 2 - MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh: Be it resolved that this Council subscribes to the request made by The Consumers' Gas Company of Toronto to the Ontario Fuel Board for an order dispensing with the assent of the electors of the Township of Pickering pursuant to subsection 4 of section 9 of The Municipal Franchises Act. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson that permission be granted to the Pickering District High School to canvass for contributions to United Nations International Chi1drens' Emergency Fund on October 31, 1955. CARRIED AGREED T. M. Moore procure gravel rights in lake along entire front except- ing areas held under private ownership. AGREED that no action be taken on Dr. Bernhardt appointment for this year. CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS 1. Arrange meeting of Messrs. Moore, Pugh and Johnston with Dr. G. H. Col1acutt, Department of Agriculture, 366 Keele Street, Toronto, re garbage-fed piggeries. Rates for Municiua1 water was discussed and tentatively decided: Residents' rate, 44¢ per 1000 gallons, less 10% for prompt payment. Commercial - same as Residential Industrial - 35¢ per 1000 gallons, less 10% over 300,000 gallons. Service Connection - $ 82.00, including meter. Water bills to be mailed every 3 months.
