A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the THIRD day of OCTOBER, 1955, at
~ o'clock in the forenoon.

MÐYED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Scott, that Minutes of meeting held
September 2, 1955, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, that Minutes of meeting held
September 12, 1955, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Minutes of meeting held
September 26, 1955, be adopted. CARRIED
The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Petition of owners of School Section Number 7. asking that a 30-mile per
hour speed limit area be set up on Concession 3 between Altona Road and
Fairport Road. Council agreed this be done in built-up area of Cherrywood,
which area only meets regulations.
2. M. Stewart asked that Woodlands Road be improved. Clerk advise that Road. ,De par
will be draw1ng':gravel in this area later in year.
3. Canadian Red Cross Society, Pickering Branch, thanks for donation to transporta
of Crippled Children to swimming classes.
4. F. J. Prouse - 51 Permits issued in September. Valued at $ 265,000.00.
Year to date, $2,047,900.00, including 20 dwellings averaging over
$12,000.00 each.
5. DeDartment of Hi2bways, advising that they will study a blinker light on
No. 2 Highway at Liverpool and advise.
The following PERSONS on MOTION, were heard:
1. Mr. Newmark, owner of part of Lot 29, Plan 228, asked permission to ocoupy
a shed until he could build his house in 1956. Mr. Thompson to inspect,
and report.
2. Mr. A. J. ThomDson (1) RepOrted that Piggery By-Law was again held over
by the Magistrate until October 25, 1955. (2) Recommended that the
following regularly used dumps be covered with fill: Concession 6, Lot 31;
Concession 3, Lot 3; Concession 3, Lot 22. (3) Recommended that Mr.
Allison be permitted a Wrecking Yard in Concession 4, Lot 22 - old Barclay
Gravel Pit.
3. Mr. Neale, Concession 6, Lot 12, stated that it is three miles to his Mount
Zion School and I! miles to Greenwood School. Refused admission to Greenwood
School. Clerk write Mr. Archibald, Public School Inspector.
4. Walton Holmes stated he had two cows damaged by dogs and asked that dogs be
not permitted to run at large.
5. W. C. Willson discussed W. Holmes' cows - damage.
6. Mr. Willson, of Toronto Industrial Commission, asked that the Township
renew their 1955 membership with them, and he expected large Industrial
development in Pickering Township very soon.
7. Mr. Gray, of Bell Gouin1ock and Company, Investment Dealers, stated he had
a firm bid for our $95,000.00 debentures and would disclose it if Council
were prepared to sell them privately.

8. Robert Miller asked Council to pay a $1,900.00 bill for Brougham Park
Lights and accept the Provincial Government grant of approximately
$2,000.00, which would be available in one month. Council agreed to
advance $1,500.00 for one month.
9. Mike Czap asked for a lane culvert at Concession 4, Lot 5. Council
agreed that Road Department would instal when culverts were available
at regular price.
10. T. M. Moore stated that he believed that Mr. Greer would drop the
POlanyi case of damages against the Township, if Council installed
another culvert and paid Mr. Greer's fee.
ll. Mr. Crai~, owner of a lot, south half of Lot 18, Concession 2, asked
permission to build his garage in front of his house. As the garage
is attached to the house and is 70 feet from the Road, Council approved.
L2. Delbert Goslin advised Council he had returned his 1955 Assessment Roll
on September 30th, and it shows an assessment of $10,636,835.90, or an
increase of $690,368.08 over 1954, with a population of 12,874, an
increase of 485.
l3. A. F. Percy, Concession 3, Lot 15, stated that the Hydro in error cut
a number of trees on his property because the road allowance was wide.
He asked that five pine trees beside his fence in Concession 3, Lot 14,
be given him in lieu of trees cut, and secondly, that he disagreed
with the Fenceviewers' Award made eight years ago between him and Mr,
Middleton.
.4. Brian Ruddy asked for $ 650.00 Survey equipment and $150.00 map drawer.
rOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Newman, that Tenders be called for
;95,000.00 School Debentures for October 11, 1955. CARRIED
[OVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Scott, that as Council feel that Mr.
~lanyi has suffered no damage regarding the culvert in front of his home
,t Plan 283, Lot 76, and as present culvert has improved the drainage of
fr. POlanyi's property, Mr. MOQre be directed to defend any action brought
,gainst the Township by Mr. P01anyi. CARRIED
~VED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, that the Township of Pickering
'enew its 1955 membership with the Toronto Industrial Commission in the
mount of $ 500.00. CARRIED
~ by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that five line pine trees
pposite Concession 4, Lot 14, be given Mr. A. F. Percy in lieu of trees
u~ in error by Hydro. CARRIED
