An Emergent Meeting of Cow1cil was held on ~iEDNESDAY, the TWENTY-NINTH day
of JUNE at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Se~retary School Section 3.West, advising that their Board would not
contribute 50% of the cost of School Guards to assist children crossing
No.2 Highway at "Stroud's".
2. Department of Highways advising that they will pay 50% of the cost of
a sidewalk at Petticoat Creek on Highway 2.
3. Mr~ C.S..rant, advising that the sideline between Lots 20 and 21, Brol\:en
Front, Range 2, was gravelled with rough large lake gravel and damaged
their car, and asked for calciunl on the road. Mr. Ward reported the road
good, Council agree<l that 8 bags of calcium be placed on lower end of
said road.
4. Claremont Recreatiop Committee asked for a grant to assist them with their
swimming programme. Clerk directed to have them make use of the Township
Recreational Committee and get a Provincial grant on their expenditures.
5. Mr. Forest was heard re cottage, Concession 3, Lot 12.
6. Mrs. Outhouse and pI'. Clemmer ,vere heard. They asked that the road in
front of their properties at Lot 15, south half of Concession 5, be oiled
to keep down the dust. They stated that the light coat of calcium was no
good when there is such a heavy traffic of large gravel trucks. Clerk
contact purchaser of Gibson's gravel and ask for oil (Brigg's, Rodger 1124)
7. Mr. Gilpin of Clark's Hollow, was heard, and asked (1) That the culvert
pipe at entrance of Forest and Streanl subdivision be lengthened. Agreed
Tomlship put 10 feet on north end. (2) The ditch south and west of
entrance be ditched. Council agreed to ditch to Dr. Armstrong's gate
this year. (3) Asked for a Police Officer for the area. Secretary
Police Commission make appointment for Mr. Gilpin July 15, 1955.
(4) Asked for calcium in their subdivision. Council agreed to give
them up to 13 bags at $ 1.00 per bag. (5) Asked for grader on their
private roads. Council agreed the grader should be sent in on request
at regular rates.
QLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Have Road Superintendent check and clean out culvert at entrance to
Forest and Stream subdivision and add 10 feet to north end.
2. Have Mr. Thompson charge Elmer Gates on Altona Road for moving in a house,
and not installing plumbing and without a proper foundation.
3. Write Mr. H. A. Newman, advising him that we have sent certain documents
to our lawyer for his consideration as to the Township's responsibility,
regarding the erosion from Mrs. Huggin's Property onto his lands.
4. Search Eva Young Estate, Plan 283, Lots 96-97 for 10 foot right-of-way.
5. Mr. Ward. Fill at culvert Glen Allen and Glendale.

BY-LAW NUMBER 2100
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of
the Township of Pickering to establish a Community Centre at Brougham, and that
same now be read a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by ~w. Newman, moves that By-Law Number 2100 to establish
a Community Centre at Brougham be now read a second time and that Council go
into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on By-Law Number 2100 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now
read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same and that
the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2101
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the
Township of Pickering to increase the salaries of certain employees in the
. Department of Health, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law Number 2101 to increase
the salaries of certain employees in the Department of Health be now read a
second time and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read~
Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the report of the Committee of
the Whole on Bv-Law Number 2101 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now
read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that
the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
On MOTION of Mr. Newman, the meeting adjourned.
