An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on TUESDAY, the TWEN~Y-FOURTH day of
MAY, 1955, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Applications for Road Engineer:
Brian RuddY, 26 Cedar Street, Ajax. Central Mortgage and Housing. Age
30, Salary, $5,200.00
2. D. H. Miller, 6 MayTree Road, York Mills. Age 46. Salary, $ 5,000.00
E. D. Gerritsen, 115 Dundas St., W., Whitby, Onto Did not appear. Has a
new job.
2. Solicitors for Hi~hlan~ Creek Sand and Gravel, stating that the Company.
would co-operate on road upkeep to their proposed plant and asked that
our protest to Ottawa against their securing a permit to operate be
clarified.
3. Rou~e Hill-Rosebank Road Home and School Association petition requesting
(1) School Guards at No.2 Highway, Stroud's Store. Clerk requested to
contact School Boards to see if they would share cost.
(2) Sidewalk for children outside railing at Petticoat Creek. Clerk write
Department of Highways.
4. Miller Pavin~ Company, advising that they are not using their Gravel Pit
north of Valley Farm Road, D~t if they do they will assist with oil or
calcium on Valley Farm Road.

Beamish Construction Company. Estimate quote cold mix laid. Township
supply gravel, $ 3.70 per ton, or about $ 5,000.00 per mile; value
gravel approximately $ 2250.00. Total, $ 7,250.00.
6. Motor Vehicles Branch - new legislation. Maximum capacity Class Broads
22,000 Ibs. effective May 30, 1955.
7. John DesBrisay, Concession 1, Lot 18, agreed his lands be transferred from
School Section 2 to School Section 4 West.
8. Milton G. Sleep, Concession 1, Lot 18, agreed his lands be transferred from
School Section 2 to School Section 4 West.
9. Robe~t H. Winters, Department of Public Works advising that the Ajax Water
Plant disposition is under consideration and they will inform this Township
if the Plant is for sale.
10. A. J. Thom~son reported against Fred Stevenson, Plan 350, Lot 110, receiving
a Wrecking License.
11. Copy R.D.H.P. Conservation Authority Minutes of meeting held April 20, 1955.
12. Villa~e Clerk of Pickerin~. Letter authorizing lots 22 and 23 from Lake Ontar
to half way between Concession 3 and 4 be transferred from Pickering Village
Fire Area to East Woodlands Fire Area.
Letter agreeing that the west lim~t of School Section 4 West be the Brock
Road from C. N. R. to Third Concession line.

Letter regretting that they cannot permit Township using part of their
excess water.
13. Report, A. J. Thompson that he had warned Mr. Bergman and Miss Katherine
Stephens that the erection of a Board Fence 12 feet high on neighbour's
lot line from road to his house was a violation of By-Law 1978 and he
would be prosecuted if fence were erected.
14. Department of Agriculture advising that Livestock protection Act could
include poultry. TABLED
15. Hughes. A~ar. Amys. Steen & Bassel, advising that the Plaintiff in case
Pickering Township vs. Betts is claiming $1500.00 damages.
16. H. A. Newman, objecting to By-Law 2091.
As there are no liens registered against Police Station, it was agreed Treasurer
pay $2,000.00 of $ 2,715.53 balance to Mr. Wells.
The following PERSONS, on MOTION were heard:
1. ~. Cane, re paving Pine Ridge Road and By-Law Number 2091 re Subdivision
Control.
2. Mr. Clark asked that "Condemned" sign on building on lot 131 and 132, Plan
331 be removed as he had paid $4,000.00 for it. Mr. Prouse verified that the
building was built as a tool shed and was first lived in in Spring of 1954
when he placarded it. The building, with addition, is approximately 17 feet
by 21 feet, or 357 square feet. NO ACTION
3. Mr. Wozney discussed road conditions and By-Law Number2091.
4. Mr. Brian Ruddy re position of Engineer
5. Mr. D. H. Miller re position of Engineer.
6. Andrew Dand stated he was prepared to prepare road or pave 200 or 300 yards
in front of his Club House.
Council agreed to prime the following parts of roads:
Ajax north - 5/8 miles;
Valley Farm Road, 5/8 miles;
Fourth Concession - 1 Mile;
Second Concession west of Altona Road - ~ mile;
Hole in the Hill - t mile;
Altona Road - It miles;
Town Line - 5/8 mile;
Station Road - 5/8 mile.
Total - 5~ miles.
To pave:
Altona Road - It miles;
Harwood Road North - It miles;
Town Line - 3/8 mile;
Hole in Hill - t mile;
Frenchman's Bay Road - 3/10 mile;
Moore Road - 3/10 mile;
Total 3t miles.
MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr, Pugh, that Mr. Martin, Concession 4, Lot 18,
be not granted a Wrecking License for 1955. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Scott, that Mr. Stephenson, Plan 350, Lot 110,
be not granted a Wrecking Yard License for 1955. CARRIED

CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
I. Advise A. Dand that the road from corner of East Avenue and Island Road to Golf
Club House will be prepared in 1955 for paving in 1956. Copy Ratepayers'
Association.
2. Advise Jack Hughson that Township now owners lands for a rear entrance to their
lands and that they may proceed to build the road as agreed.
3. Ask Police to enforce truck overloading on Squire's Beach Road.
4. Arrange a meeting of our Council with Pickering Village Council re school lands.
5. Get credit report from our Banker on Brian Ruddy.
6. Get recommendation from Mr. Ballard re Brian Ruddy.
On MOTION of Mr. Newman, the meeting adjourned.
