PRESENT: George T. Todd, Reeve WID. G. Newman Wm. G. Lawson Sidney S. Pugh J. Sherman Scott L. T. Johnston The rollowing CORRESPONDENCE was read: l. Central Mort~a~e and Housin~ advising that they will rix sideline between Lots 4 and 5 in Broken Front, Range 3, and hand baok to Township by June 30th, 1955. ..J'A4f~ Central Mort~a~e and Housin£, asking Council to permit a l8lt~eF drainage ditoh to be built f'rom Ajax across our sideline between Lots 6 and 7, then through Isaac Levine property. Counoil agreed providing (1) they instal the oulvert (2) Permission is reoeived from Isaao Levine Estate. (3) that Central Mortgage and Housing permit Piokering Township to dig a drainage ditoh so that surface water may flow down west side of Piokering Beach Road, through C. M. & H. property to Lake L. A. Bouoher. District Engineer, asking which roads to be paved under SuppJementaty 13y-Law. 2. 3. ·4. Polioe Chief recommending that Frank Gleeson be not granted a Taxi Owner's License. 5. \"i John L~, submitting price Fidelity Insurance, $ 191.00 per year; Building, etc., , 732.50, 3 years. 6. Road SUDerintendent - cost to pave from Rouge Hills Golf' Course to end or pavement, $,5~O reet: Gravel Cold Mix $ 9217.50 5250.80 Total $ 14,468.30 (not inoluding maintainer work The following PERSONS, on HITÅ“ON were heard: 1. F. J. Smith and delegation, complaining about Highland Creek Sand and Gravel operating at Dufrin's Creek, drawing large loads and ruining their roads. 2. Mr. Wozney oomplained about a watercourse and about his assessment and Building Inspeotor. Agreed to oheok up with the Assessor. 3. Mr. Bennett complained: (1) Inadequate Fire proteotion. (2) Çulvert at Glendale (3) Hydro Pole in dangerous condition. Report to Hydro. Mr. Bennett agreed to have his ratepayers seed street ditches if given seeds, erect signs when received, and was in favour of' a School Area, as requested in 1954. 4. John Mills and Mr. Parish or Ajax, asked Counoil to support them in protesting to Ottawa against Highland Creek Sand and Gravel getting a license to operate a drag line out f'rom nurrin's Creek to obtain gravel. - 2 - MOVED by Mr. Newman, seoonded by Mr. Pugh, that the Clerk forward a wire to the Sëoretary of the Department of Publio Works, Ottawa, objeoting to their giving a lioense to Highland Creek Sand and Gravel operating a drag line at mouth of' Duffin's Creek. CARRI~D MOVED by Mr. Scott, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Fidelity Ißsurance at 1 19l.00 per year, be ~iven to John Lay, that is, $ lO,OOO.OO on all em- ployees and $ 2,000.00jlO,000.00 on securities inside and outside. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Soott, that following insurance: 1 20,000.00 Munioipal Building; Township Orrioe Contents, $ 4,000.00; Garage, $ 8,000.00; Township Hall, $ 101000.00; Polioe Station Contents, $ 3,000.00; Fire Hall, Bast Woodlands, , 5,000.00, for $ 498.90, by C. E. Morley, be accepted. CARRIEp MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that whereas the south part of sideline between Lots 32 and 33 of the Fifth Concession of the Township of Pickering has been sold a number of times during the past 50 years but has never been of'ricially olosed by the Township, the Clerk be authorized to post notioes that said sideline will be closed by By-Law on June l, 1955, unless serious objection is raised. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Pugh, that Mrs. Blaokburn, or Concession 2, Lot 12, be granted a Kennel License. CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS l. Wire and write Ottawa, requesting that application of Highland Creek Sand and Gravel Company Limited be not approved. 2. Get four bushels Timothy and two bushels Sweet Clover seed f'or G~endale subdivision. 3. Rush Chier Hill on Taxi By-Law. ( < '- , \ ( < <. 4. Write Rouge Hills West Association about set-baok and sideyards on certain ' lots. 5. Write Ted S~ms and T. M. Moore if there is any provision in Highway Act to restriot extra heavy loads to be oarried on Township gravel roads. BY-LAW NUMBER 2090 Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves f'or leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of' Pickering to amend By-Law Number 2077 of' The Corporation of the Township of Piokering, and that same now be read a rirst time. Mr. Pugh, seoonded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law Number 2090 to amend By-Law Number 2090 to amend By-Law Number 2077 of The Corporation of the Township of Piokering be now read a second time and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee or the Whole arises and reports the By-Law as read. Mr. Pugh, seconded by Mr. Scott, moves that the Report of' the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2090 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.
