A meeting of Pickering Township Council was held on MONDAY. the THIRTY-
FIRST day of AUGUST, 1964. at EIGHT o'clock p. m.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was considered.
1. Metro Toronto and Region Conservation Authority requests a
resolution to endorse their report of June, 1963. as presented
to Council last April. See Resolution No. 250/6~.
2. George Ben. Solicitor for Cherry Downs Golf Club, asks Council to
pave Concession 7 on front of the Golf Club property, as Mr. Cherry
claims Council agreed to do this work. Referred to Road Committee.
3. Planning Board recommends changes in Zoning By-Laws re parking of
vehicles on private property zoned Residential. No action.
~. Labour Relations Officer. the Township and Inside Union recommend
a schedule of salaries for employees. No action.
5. Department of Education advises that there will be two Public
School areas in the Township as of January 1, 1965. with five
trustees elected in Area 1 at large. Council may appeal by
September 1, 196~.
6. J. H. Vernoy. Con. 3, Lot 19, agrees to conditions for Letter of
Tolerance for garage.
7. Mrs. M. Smith requests Council to fill pot holes on Lakecrest
Avenue in Pickering Beach where there are three houses on private
portion of road. Referred to Road Committee.
8. Consideration of Architect for Municipal Building.
See Resolution No. 255/64.
9. Resignation of Gordon Shaver accepted by Parks and Recreation
Committee on August 26, 196~. New member to be appointed.
No action.
10. Ontario Municipal Board final approval of $9.043.00 expenditure
for water and sewer mains on Industrial Road.
ll. Department of Highways of Ontario approves Township calling for
tenders for paving.
12. Department of Highways of Ontario approves 3/8" chips, $3.600.00.

quota of $2.370.000.00 capital expense for 1964. subject to
individual By-Law approval.
20. Provincial Government release re H. E. P. C. plant at Fairport.
2l. Department of Lands and Forests advises that County shall pay to
minor municipalities normal taxes on reforestation. Does not
apply to Pickering Township.
22. Department of Highways of Ontario will not subsidize purchase of
road broom. No approval of this department necessary.
23. Stevenson & Kellogg Limited submit cost of Township job class-
ification.
24. Notice of Public Hearing, Thursday. September lOt 1964. Municipal
Building. Brougham, re application for Letter of Tolerance for
Lot 98. Plan 377. Whitehall Plumbing and Heating.
25. Notice of Public Hearing. Thursday, September 10. 1964, at 9:00
P.M., Municipal Building, Brougham, re amendment for By-Law 2511,
to permit erection of public hospital, nursing home, etc.

26. Ontario Police Commission recommend "Teletype System" for local
police forces at cost of $45.00 per month plus $20.00 for install-
ation. Report to be forwarded to Police Commission ·
27. Department of Highways of Ontario approve laying 600 tons hot mix.
28. Department of Municipal Affairs advise that application for grant
under Municipal Works Assistance Program must be made to them prior
to September 25, 1964. See Resolution No. 256/64.
29. Our Solicitors ask for 12 points to be clarified in proposed
inside union agreement.
30. Building Department report August 196~ permits at $269.350.00
and $3.6l7.645.00 to date this year.
31. The Anglican Church requests permission to build and maintain
120 feet at westerly extension of Radom Street in Bay Ridges to
the proposed site of their new church until Fairport Street is
opened north to the Service Road. Referred to Road Committee.
32. Our Solicitors claim they cannot get a good title to Uxbridge
gravel pit until they get a Quieting Order at a cost of $600.00
to $800.00. Clerk to contact vendor to see if he will share
cost of Order.
33. Dominion Mushroom Company Limited are not satisfied with Township
letter of July 30, 1964, re water backing up onto their property
in Lot 19, Concession~. Referred to County Engineer.

Reeve Laycox introduced members of the executive of the West Rouge
Canoe Club. He offered the Township's congratulations to the group
whose enthusiasm had won them the Canadian Junior KI Championship.
the first such championship to be won by any Township canoe club.
On behalf of the club. Messrs. Waring and Campbell presented trophies
to the winning juvenile crew of John Golmes. Ricky Betts. Brian Petts
and Garry McLellan. The Reeve presented a trophy to John Mitchell,
winner of the 1000 metre single Kayak race and offered his personal
congratulations to the club.
Councillor Wank inquired as to what progress was being made with the
West Rouge forced local and asked that the Clerk advise.

MOVED by Mr. Wank, seconded by Mr. Newman, that the Council of the
Corporation of the Township of Pickering endorse the recommendation
as set forth by the Metropolitan Toronto and Region Conservation
Authority in their report dated June. 1963. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NUMBER 251/64
MOVED by Mr. Waring. seconded by Mr. Newman, that permission be given
to Mr. D. C. Gibson, to search for and retain any of the documents
that are to be destroyed under By-Law No. 2907, for use of the
Historical Society. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NUMBER 252/64
MOVED by Mr. Campbell. seconded by Mr. Waring. that Resolution No.
~9/60 be rescinded and that department heads recommend to potential
employees that it is desirable that Township employees live in the
Township. CARRIED

~esources Commission be authorized to pay the bill for the repair of
the 30HP/550 volt motor in the Ridgewood Pumping Station, amounting to
$800.00 as per their order No. l2754-61-a-92 from the Reserve Account¡
as recommended by the Public Utilities Committee August 19. 1964.

authorized to purchase the Wild Mirror Stereoscope. and the arial
photographs flown in May 1964. at the price of $830.00. plus applicable

to utilize the existing single sewer connection for Lot 14, R.P. 274,

provided that an easement be granted and filed with the Township for
any part of the connection to Lot 13 that may be constructed across
Lot 14; as recommended by the Public Utilities Committee on August 19.

MOVED by Mrs. McPherson. seconded by Mr. Newman. that this Council does
hereby endorse the recommendation of the Township of Pickering Planning
Board of June 26, 196~, and hereby authorizes the issuance of a Letter
of Tolerance, that no action will be taken by the Township of Pickering
for reasons of variance from Zoning By-Law 2572, on property known as
part of Lot 20, Concession 1. to permit D. Lennox to create a new
parcel having approximately 190' frontage whereas a minimum of 200'
frontage is required. Such variance being due to the location of the
existing warehouse. CARRIED
