Father McMahon of Pickering St. Francis de Sales Church, spoke
br1eìly 1n bonducting the devotional exercises, and wished Council
well for the year 1963.
Reevegcott thanked Father McMahon for his good wishes and then
rev1ewed the year 1962, and touched on possible problems for 1963.
Mr. Scott felt that the outstanding events of 1962 were by-laws
permitting Sunday Sports and Sunday Theatres, which were approved by
the ratepayers in 1961; the work on West Rouge sewers which should be
operating by March of this year. ~ompletion of Official Plan for
Township and certain Zoning By-Laws now before the Municipal Board;
the purchase of 40 acres industrial lands with agreements before the
Department of Municipal Affairs for approval of sale of 23 acres of
such lands, and the affirmative vote on liquor.
Reeve Scott suggested serious consideration should be given in
196 3to servicing the Township industrial lands; a drive to a ttra.ct
industry; purchase H.E.P.C. equipment in south-west part of the
Township; standardize fire services at front of Township; study
the effects of breaking the Township; and he felt that when the 1962
assessments are finally revised, all property would then have been
re-assessed and the change from a rtr.alto an urban municipality
would then have been accomplished as far as assessment is concerned.
All members of Council spoke briefly.
J.. . . .n1
Reeve Morle* of Pickering Village conveyed greetings from his Council
to th1S c05 cil, and wished the Reeve and his members a prosperous
1963.
Mrs. G. Beckstead, a regular Council attendant, stated she found
tounc11meet1ngs most interesting.
The following CORRESPONDENCE was considered:
1. Solicitor for Walter White Estate asks Council to officially
close 'fhe westerly approX1mate 14 feet of road allowance no!·th
of Pickering High School and then sell to his client.
As the travelled portion of the road between Lots 14-15
immediately north of Pickering Village was somewhat to the
east of the original survey, Council in 1876 passed By-Law
No. 407 which added to the road allowance a narrow striD of land
from Lot 14 but never officially closed or sold the narrow strip of
original allowance for road on the west side against Lot IS,
