ROAD CO~ITTEE MEETING
Atter adjournment o:f the December 14th meeting, Council as a whole
met in a Road Committee Meeting, Mrs. J. McPherson in the Chair.
The construction work done by the Road Department in
the past year was discussed with Mr. Chapman, Road Superintendent.
The Chairman asked each Councillor about the work done in their
&ewral Wards.
Ward 1 - Councillor Spang stated that the priority list in his Ward
had been completed and he was satis:fied.
Ward 2 - Councillor Jame s said the Brougham sidewalk had not been' ,
built and nothing done on Westney Road due to no Provincial
a",roval for walk and addi tional costs involved on
Westney Road. He expected considerable gravelling to be
done before end of year.
Ward 3 - Councillor Ashton was well satisfied with 1959 constructioQ
work, all priority work done.
Ward 4 - Councillor Hawthorne was quite satisfied with road work, all
priority jobs completed.
Ward 5 - Councillor Swan :felt it was 1mtortunate that there was so
much difficulty with the storm _.r on Toynevale Road,
that the Obey watercourse had not been completed, and that
so much money was required for repe.1,ring Altona Road due
to the Spring break-up.
Mr. Chapman advised the Committee on tbe costs of the
various construction Jobs and stated that Provinoial approval had
not been secured for Brougham sidewalk, easements had 'not been
secured for properties in the Obey drainage by our solicitors, and
that our machinery was not heavy enough to handle the Toynevale
