A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the ELEVENTH day of ~, 1959,
at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

MOVED by Mr. Hawthorne, seconded by Mr. Ashton, that Minutes of meeting
held April 23, 1959, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mrs. McPherson, seconded by Mr. Hawthorne, that Minutes of Meeting
held April 27, 1959, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Spang, seconded by Miss Swan, that Minutes of meeting held
May 4, 1959, as amended, be adopted. CARRIED
Tbe rollowing CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1. Townshiu of Toronto cannot concur in Township resolution requesting
Royal Co_ission to study C. N. R. by-pass.
2. Town of Ajax ask Council to endorse Brief of sub co..ittee on Metro
Planning Board membership.
3. Dr. A. G. Edmund wants Council to be more positive in objections to
C. N. R. by-pass.
4. Mr. Arthurs wants Council to be more positive in objections to C.N.R.
by-pass.
5. Mrs. Harry Porter asks for a crant of $100.00 yearly to keep up Bethel
Ce-.tery. For past two years Council have given grants of $50.00 ror
this purpose.
6. A. Gottt!!h requests renewal of agreement to rent part of Concession 3. v

T. O. Jerrerson su~itted a report on the fence placed by John Gentile
across watercourse at east end or Beachview Avenue. Reco..ended that
barbed wire under main tence be removed. Clerk require barbed wire to
be removed and quote drainage Act.

The following PERSONS. on ~TION, were heard.
1. Mrs.. D. A. Jeer and Mrs. R. T. Knox asked that the rental of the Township
Hall to the Rebekah Lodge be reduced trom $5.00 per meeting as they use
it 20 times a year. Referred to Finance Co..ittee.

Mrs. L. Matthews and Mr~. M. Annis asked that the rental or the
Township 'Hall to·theWoaen's Institute be reduced from '5.00 per
meeting as they use it 11 times plus short courses put on with
assistance or Department of Agriculture. Referred to Finance
Comaittee.
Albert Johnston ot Anchor Cab, Highland Creek, asked ror one Town-
ship license to øperate a cab in Pickering Township.
Clerk ascertain it Pickering licensed cabs can piok up patrons in
Metro and ir suoh cabs oan secure a Metro License.

~. J. E. C~Ðbell asked ir Township Engineer could sit in with
Bogineers they would secure and approach Mr. Cann, project Manager
or C. N. R. By-Pass, re alternate C. N. R. routes and that Council
again endeavour to secure alternate routes discarded by the C. N. R.
Clerk directed to again oontact Mr. Cann ror plans. (See resolution)
Mr. Obey or East Rouge asked that a dead tree be removed trom Township
road in fro~t or his property. Directed to contact Mr. Chapman.
Councillor Bawtho~e reported on Garbage Packer trucks, and expected
to be in a position to reoommend a Sani Van packer on receipt or
further information.on May 12th.

Mr. Ashton, seconded by Mr. Spang, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Township of Pickering to assess the Separate School supporters in
the Township or Pickering to provide funds for the purpose of the Roman
Catholic Schools in the year 1959, and that s..e now be read a first time.
Mr. Ashton, seconded by Mr. Hawthorne, moves that By-Law Number 2410 to
assess the Separate School supporters in the Township of Pickering to
provide funds for the purposes of the Roman Catholic Schools in the year
1959 be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the
Whole thereon.

Mr. Ashton, seconded by Mr. James, moves that the report of the Committee
of the Whole on By-Law No. 2410 be adopted, and that the said Br-Law be
now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reevè and Clerk sign tlte same,
and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

Recreation Committee, and that same now be read a first time.

members to the Township of Pickering Recreation Co.-dttee be now read a
second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. ~

CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS
1. Find out if division members to Metro Planning Board require approval
other than that of Metro Planning Board.
Cel¡ Nash advises Minister's approval is required, it has been recomm-
ended and he expects it will be forthcoming shortly.
2. Speed up copies of Zoning By-Law from Mr. Little.
3. Send copy of Solicitor's opinion re Trespass Road to Mr. Amos.
4. Check application for 30 mile per hour speed limit Concession 2 with
Police Chief.
