A meeting of Council was held on WEDNESDAY, the TWENTY-FIRST day

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:

Cons"'ters I, Gas Company has applied to Ontario Energy Board
to lo.er their rates in this area.
Cana~an Pacific Railways ask Council to approve a resolution
to pe~it them to discontinue the agent-operator at Claremont
and to permit them to operate with a caretaker. Passengers
from Claremont will obtain their ticket$ from Conductor.

Mr ~an Robertson, of Robertson Hydraulic Machinery Limited,
askÎpermiss{on to operate from Aprile Construction' Limited
building on Concession 1, Lot 20, and to enlarge premises in

Ontario Tri-Count Plannin Worksho ask Council
to apþoint wo representatives to their second annual meeting
at York County Buildings Newmarket, on Thursday" June 29th,
1961" at 6:30 p. _.
Consumers. Gas Company has appealed its 1961 assessment from
the County Court to the Ontario Municipal Board.
The County C9uncil has assumed the cost of this appeal on
behalf of al~ municipalities.
Mr. S. Spelllr, of Pine Ridge Road, objects to road ditching
and claims ditches deeper than necessary, which is objectionable
to him. Referred to Mr. Deakin.
Mrs., Donald~ibson, of Brougham applies for a Kennel Licence.

Mrs. ColbY, Of Concession 3, Lot 27, wrote Reeve Scott object-
ins to the condition of numerous services, or lack of them.
Mr. Seott agreed to contact Mrs. Colby.

1. AG¡Eg that Mr. Eric Blenkarn be heard.
Mr. Eric ~enkarn stated he represented the Fairport Yacht
Club, ,that they had been unable to secure a proper location
for their Club, and asked Council to leave them 150 feet bay
front.age with a depth of 300 to 400' for a period of 5 years
or ~.e fro. lands donated by Consolidated Building Corporation.
Mr. Blenkarn also stated they had 50 members who had $25,000.00
invested in boats, mostly Bluejays; that one-halfof the members
were Township residents, and that the maximum number of members
would be 150 to 200.
Reeve Scott felt that a policy on this matter should be set,
as he had another request from a similar Clu~that this policy
wow. be set shortly, and the Clerk advise Mr. Blenkarn.

MOVED by Mr. Deakin, seconded by Mr. James, that Mrs. Jean McPherson
be heard. CARRIED
2. Mrs. Jean McPherson submitted a petition of 35 names of residents
on Dixie Road asking Council not to approve the name of "Dixie
Road" being changed to "Heliport Road" as requested by Mr.
Frank Ogden in letters sent to residents.
As no application had been made to Council by Mr. Ogden for
such a name change, Council took no action.
Mrs. McPherson also felt that the building permit fee of $5.00
for an attached garage was too high.
RESOLUTION NO. 202/61
MOVED by Mr. Laycox, seconded by Mr. Spang, that Council approve
the request of the Canadian Pacific Railway to discontinue the
agent-operator at Claremont and to permit them to operate the
Claremont Station with a baretaker. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Deakin, that Mrs. Don Gibson,
of Brougham, be granted a Kennel Licence. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Deak n, seconded by Mr. Laycox, that Pickering Town-
ship Council recommend to the Planning Board that Ml Classification
in the Zoning By-Law No. 2572 be amended to permit light machine
shops. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NO. 205/61
MOVED by Mr. Laycox, seconded by Mr. Deakin, that this Council
recommend to Planning Board that the necessary zoning changes be
made to permit Robertson Hydraulic Machinery Ltd. to operate from
the Aprile Construction Limited building on Concession l Lot 20.

MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Bo,es, that the Town of Ajax be
permitted to assemble a parade on Heron Drive on Saturday morning,
June 24.. 1961.
RESOLUTION NO. 207/61
MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Laycox.. that C. Wilcox be granted
a Wrecking Yard Licence for his yard on the Station Road.

MOVED by Mr. Deakin, seconded by Mr. Mowbray, that probationary
riremen be hired at the wage of $3,620.00 per year. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NO. 209/61
MOVED by Mr. Deakin, seconded by Mr. Laycox, that Pickering Township
Council reject and take no action on the five grievances as presented
by the National Union of Public Service Employees and its Local #129,
respecting two job po stings in the Works Department said to have
become open on or about the 15th day of May, 1961. CARRIED

MOVED by Mr. Laycox, seconded by Mr. Boyes, that Mr.. J. S. Scott
lReeve) and Mr. E. James (Deputy Reeve) be authorized to attend the
Second Annual Tri County Planning Workshop on June 29, 1961, at
Newmarket, Ontario. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NO. 212/61
MOVED by Mr. Laycox, seconded by Mr. James, that an Industrial Sign
be placed on the Liverpool Road facing Highway 401 in sufficient
time for the 150th Anniversary Celebration and that this sign be
approximately 32 by 8 feet, as per revised samples submitted.
CARRIED
There was considerable discussion about the sign to be painted on the
Water Tower in West Rouge, which resulted in no change from 1960
resolution.
Councillor Ross Deakin reported the following salaries were paid
firemen:
1960. Oshawa - 1st 6 mos. $3760.00; 2nd 6 mos. $4100.00; 1 year $4250.
1959. Scarborough:
1st 6 mos. $3788.00; 2nd 6 mos. $3997.00; 1 year $4233.

As Mr. C. Wilcox has issued a Mandamus against the Township to
require the Township to show cause why a wrecking yard licence should
not be granted him on Station Road, the matter was fully discussed.
See Resolution No. 207/61.
Councillor Laycox felt that more police should be available on
Sundays as several calls to that office on Sundays had resulted in
the reply that no men were available to enforce speed laws.
