A Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY, the EIGHTEENTH day of
JANUAßX, 1960, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

MOVED by Mr~ James, seconded by Mr. Spang, that Minutes of meeting
held December 30, 1959, be adopted. CARRmD
MOVED by Mr. Spang" seconded by Mr. James, that Minutes of meeting
held January 4, 1960, be adopted. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Hawthorne, seconded by Mr. Laycox, that Minutes of
meeting hel. January 6, 1960, be adopted. CARRIED
The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:

The Boa,d of Sohoo~ Area No.2 submitted the following resolution,

body that in connection with the C. N. R. By-Pass" the new

2, is preferred by the Board, as it would appear to present

The following PERSONS, on MOTION, were heard:

Will1!&;J. Thomp~on# Whose group presented a Brief on C. N. R.
Bÿ:l5ãss, asked Council to accept Mr. Deaoon' s report but take
no active action.

Dr. G. Edmund, whose group also presented a Brief on C. N. R.
By-Pass stated Mr. Deaoon's report was full of holes, the terms
of refeirence were not adhered to, and the distances from
C. N. R. line of those people a.ffected were not consistent.,
W, G~~~n, representing Lions, and Harold Mitchell, represent-
ing 'n s, asked that Council prepare a brochure in an effort
to get York University to locate in Pickering Township. Messrs.
K. H. J. Clarke and Dr. Edmund supported the request. Council
agreed to consider.

RESOLUTION NUMBER 33/60
MOVED by Mr. Iaycox, seconded by Mr. Deakin,
THAT WHEREAS in 1954 a Mill Rate was levied for Police protection
in that part of the Township lying north of Concession 3 line and
there is now a credit of $970.84 in this account;
AND WHEREAS it would appear that the Fire Area No.3 covering approx-
imately the same area in 1959 will have a deficit;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Treasurer be directed to transfer
said #970.84 from the North Pickering Police Area to the North
Pickering Fire Area, CARRIED
RESOLUTION NUMBER 34/60
MOVED by Mr. James, seconded by Mr. Hawthovne, that the Township
Dinner be held on February 26th at 6:30 P, M. at the Township Hall
at Brougham and that the ladies' associations of Brougham be con-
tacted regarding catering. CARRIED

be authorized to sign a substitute lease for the parking area on
Township Road in the West Rouge Shopping Centre between Block itA",

action taken by Claremont Trustees and their inclusion into the
Municipal Fire Department of Pickering Township, and that a by-law
be passed to define an area. CARRIED
RESOLUTION NUMBER 38/60
MOVED by Mr. Hawthorne, seconded by Mr. Ashton, that
WHEREAS the increased traffic over rural roads serving Conservation
areas primarily of a recreational nature, add an increased burden
to the local municipality in the construction and maintenance of
such roads.
BE IT THEREFORE &qØfL¥iEØ that the Metropolitan Toronto and Region
Conservation Authority be requested to not consider the establishment
of any further conservation areas of a recreational nature in the
Township of Pickering unless the Conservation Authority is prepared
to assist the Township with the construction and maintenance of
suitable access roads from Provincial Highways or County Roads to
serve the Conservation areas. CARRIED
