A Meeting of Council was held on TUESDAY, the SECOND day of AUGUST, 1954,
at TEN o'clock in the forenoon.

The Minutes of meeting held June 30, 1954, were read, and on MOTION of
Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, adopted. CARRIED
The Minutes of meeting held July 5, 1954, were read, and on MOTION of
Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, adopted. CARRIED
The Minutes of meeting held July 12, 1954, were read, and on MOTION of
Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, adopted. CARRIED
The Minutes of meeting held July 26, 1954, were read, and on MOTION of
Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, adopted. CARRIED

7. Mr. Fred Walker, Pickering, R.R. 2, asked for Speed Limit on Concession
2, between Lots 29 and 30 and asked for calcium. Calcium put on but not
sufficiently built up for 30-mile speed limit.

1. F. J. Prouse, re family living in tent shack north of Dunbarton. Mr.
Prouse explained they would be out in two weeks

Mr. Kin~, Oakwood Drive, fenced his lot. Neighbour refuses to pay
half cost. Advised tha~ this is not now a Tbwnship matter.

5. Mr. Maitland wanted to place ten signs on Township roads. Left for
August 9th meetini.
6. Mr. Swift asked for hydro on his cottage in Plan 373.
7. Messrs. Burritt and Barclay asked for Zoning against more swimming
parks.
8. Mr. Robert Martin, Concession 2, Lot 33, asked that his roads be
taken over.
9. Dick Tweedie asked for Fence Bonus on 40 rods.
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, that the exterior of the
Municipal Building be done in ch~stalite finish at an additional cost
of $ 200.00 to make Tender read $ 709.76. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, that Mr. Scott in Plan 346
be granted a Kennel License, providing he keep not more than six dogs
which. he. has at present. CARRIED
Applications for Rebate on 1954 taxes recommended by Assessor:
No. 903, Mary Jacobs, Plan 330. Cottage torn down 1953. Assessment,
$ 300.00; Rebate, '-20.58.
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by ~æ. Lawson, rebate of $ 20.58 for
Mrs. Jacobs be granted. CARRIED
No. 1343., Ellen James, Concession 2, South half of Lot 24. Assessed
as duplex. Now one family. Assessment for rebate, 400.00. Tax
Rebate, $ 27.44.

77. Write Minshull that Council will take over his north-south road in
his subdivisi,on if he will give permission to permit our Road
Department to ditch from said road to the lake.

BY-LAW NUMBER 2024 (Third Reading)
Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that the Report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2024 to authorize the borrowing of
$ 68,000.00 upon debentures for school purposes (School Area No.1)
be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a third time and
PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal
of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2030 (Third Reading)
Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that the Report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2030 to levy by Debenture
the sum of $ 45,000.00 to be granted to the Ajax-Pickering Township
Hospital for Capital costs, be adopted, and that the said By-Law be
now read a Third time and PASSED: That the Reeve and Clerk sign the
same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.

BY-LAW NUMBER 2031
Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce
a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to adopt an agreement for the
Township to take over certain roads in Plan 233, Rosebank, and that
same now be read a first time.
Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law Number 2031
to adopt an agreement for the Township to take over certain roads in
Plan 233, Rosebank, be now read a second time, and that Council go
into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole then arose .and reported.
Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that the Report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2031 be adopted, that the
said By-Law be read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and
Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed
thereto. CARRIED
BY-LAW NUMBER 2032
Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of the Municipal Council of the Township of Pickering to
increase certain salaries in the Health Department, and that same
now be read a first time.
Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law Number 2032
to increase certain salaries in the Health Department be now read a
second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported.
Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that the Report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2032 be adopted, and that the said
By-Law be now read a Third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk
sign the same and the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto.

By-Law of the Municipality of the Township of Pickering to take over
and assume roads in certain subdivisions, and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that By-Law Number 2033 to t
take over and assume roads in certain subdivisions be now read a second
time, and that Council go into Committee of. the Whole thereon.

MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that this meeting do now
adjourn to meet again on Wednesday the 1st day of September, 1954,
