An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on MONDAY the TWELFTH day of
July, at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE\~s read:

Mrs. E. P. Soden, asking that holes in road be filled with gravel
for a period of five years.
Mr. Karl Polanyi, advising of flood conditions on his property
caused by road work.

MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that Mr. A Ryder, of
Rosebank, be heard, regarding request for hydro for the basement
of his future home. Request refused as construction not far enough
in advance, and cellar dwellings prohibited. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, that holes in road be
7 filled with gravel, as requested by Mrs. Soden, for a period of five
years. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that top soil be supplied
? to Mr. K. Polanyi in the Fall. CARRIED
~ Mr. Lawson reported that there appears to be no reason for complaint
¿ against issuing a Kennel License to Mr. Higby. License to be granted.

Roy Ward reported that road drained and ditched to Highway No. 2 in
White's subdivision - completed.
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, that all existing roads
in White and Hough subdivisions be taken over; thése róads,'including
the Liverpool Road from No. 2 to Concession 2, to be calciumed.

MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that open Tenders be
called for fine gravel paths on roads outlined below:
Harwood Drive - Boundary of Ajax to No. 2 Highway
Fairport Road - North from No. 2 Highway to Con. 2
Altona Road - North from No. 2 Highway to Con. 1
and that these Tenders be advertised in Pickering News and Enterprise,
West Hill. CARRIED

PROPOSED a proper building for Road Men's use at Pit.
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that Road Department be
1 allowed to pick up stoves (1) one for pit, and (1) one for garage;
also tables be supplied (built by road men themselves). CARRIED

7 MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that the following
adjustments of salaries in the Health Department be made as of
January 1, 1954:
Miss W. Walker - $ ~,925.00 to $ 3,125.00
Dr. N. Tomlinson - $ 1,650.00 to $ 1,750.00
Dr. P. Loos - $ 1,100.00 to $ 1,175.00
as recommended by the Board of Health.
MOVED by }VIr. Lawson, seconded by }Vir. Balsdon, that:
WHEREAS the transportation facilities in the Towonto Metropolitan
Area are adequate to serve the expanding population;
CARRIED
? AND WHEREAS great savings could be made if the R~ilways serving
MetÐopolitan Toronto expanded their service to give adequate
commuter service;
NOW. THEREFORE the Corporation of the Municipality of the Township
of Pickering respectfully petition the Board of Transport Commission
to make an order granting adequate commuter service for the entire
Toronto area;
AND BE IT ENACTED that copies of this Action be sent to all the
Municipalities in the Toronto area with a request that the Petition
be passed by the Councils of the said Municipalities and forwarded
to the Board of Transport Commissioners. CARRIED

Mr. Lawson, seconded by I~. Balsdon, moves for leave to introduce a
By-Law of the Municipality of the Township of Pickering to levy by
Debenture the sum of $ 45,000.00 to be granted to the Ajax-Pickering
Township Hospital for Capital costs, and that same now be read a
first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that By-Law No. 2030 to
levy by Debenture the sum of $ 45,000.00 to be granted to the Ajax-
Pickering Township Hospital for Capital costs, be now read a second
time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
On MOTION of Mr. Newman, the meeting adjourned.
