PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the Chair Clare A. Balsdon William G. Newman William G. Lawson Hugh G. Michell Lloyd T. Johnston Douglas PIitz The following CORRESPONDENCE was read: 2. w. B. Colquhoun asked for Taxi License. Ralph W. Larabee asked for two Taxi Licenses. W. A. Dobbin asked for one Taxi License. 1. 3. 4. Ace Taxi asked for two Taxi Licenses. Police Chief re Taxi Licenses.. __ (1) Recommended suspension of Kenneth Murchison Taxi License as on June 29, 1954, he was convicted of selling liquor and fined $ 200.00. 5. (2) (3 ) (4) ( 5) (6) Recommended Brian McCart some time ago, but now not so sure, will keep a careful check on him if granted. Albert Colquhoun - does not recommend. Douglas Thompson - poor risk. Bill Dobbin - keep close scrutiny. Ralph Larabee - recommend. 6. Helen F. Shaver objects to Dog Kennel License being granted Mr. Scott in Plan 346. 7. Irven McLean again asks that sideline between Lots 8 and 9, North half of Concession 5, be ditched. Council agreed to do it last year. 8. H. A. Newman, again objected to farms being taxed for Police protection. 9. Clerk. Township of Markham, advising that Town Line had received a coat of calcium, but oiling for 1955 would be up to new Council. 10. E. Bruno asked for Hydro for Cheese Factory in Garage at Concession 5, Lot 2. Department refused Permit. 11. Inspector Hayden, advising R. C. grants for 1954: School Section 3 West, Rouge ... $ 12,196.00 School Section Pickering Village 13,560.00 School Section Ajax 2,419.10 12. ChfåC Hill, advising John Found hired as Clerk at salary of $35.00 a six-day week, commencing July 1, 1954. - 2 - 15. Municipal Board - Scarborough Zoning Hearing July 8, 1954. Silas Tool - resignation as Chairman Pickering Township Game Committee. Uxbridge Township, agreeing to pay 50% oiling Townline from Altona Store to Markham Townline. Barclay Transport - Tender for erecting a sidewalk from Highway 2 to Ajax on Harwood Drive - $ 674.00. Michael Starr, M. P., advising that 10% sales tax has been lifted on Road Equipment and Fire Fighting Equipment over $1000.00 but not to include cars or trucks. 18. Horton, Carr and Haynes, Survey of Police lands. Mr. Gibson complained about burning rubber in the pit. 24. ~~s. Â. ~~itfield asked that her road be scraped for $ 1.00 as agreed, but has not been done this year; also about bad crossing over C. N. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Michell, that Council accept resignation of Silas Tool as Chairman of Pickering Game Preserve. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. I~chell, that Charles Closson be appointed a member of the Pickering Game Preserve. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that Reeve, Deputy- Reeve and Road Superintendent get Easement for drain in Plan 346 on property of Mr. Hill. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by ~œ. Balsdon, that 1954 Voters' List be prepared alphabetically. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, that the License of Kenneth Murchison, who now holds a Taxi License and was last week convicted for selling liquor, be suspended. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that the following Taxi Licenses be granted: Ralph Larabee - Two Licenses Ace Taxi - Two Licenses (When Lidster turns his in) w. A. BY-LAW NUMBER 2022 Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to amend By-Law Number 1$75, which provides for Pensions to employees, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Lawson, seconded by I~. Michell, moves that By-Law No. 2022 to ' amend By-Law Number 1$75, which provides for Pensions to employees, be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported. Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that the report of the COmmittee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2022 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and Passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2023 Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to repeal By-Law Number 2015 and amend By-Law Number 1967 relative to Polling Subdivisions, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Newman, seconded by ~~. Michell, moves that By-Law Number 2023 to repeal By-Law Number 2015 and amend By-Law Number 1967 relative to Polling Subdivisions be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported. Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that the report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law Number 2023 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and PASSED; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2024 (2 Readingsì Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Cor~oration of the Township of Pickering to authorize the borrowing of , 68,000.00 upon debentures for School purposes (School Area 1), and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that By-Law No. 2024 to authorize the borrowing of $ 6$,000.00 upon debentures for school purposes, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. - 4 - BY-LAW NUMBER 2025 Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to provide for parking fines to be paid at Police Office, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law No. 2025 to provide for parking fines to be paid at Police Office, be now read a: second time, and that Council go i.nto Committee of the Whole thereon. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2026 Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to provide for the Sanitary Inspector to act for the Medical Officer of Health under By-Law Number 2018, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law Number 2026 to provide for the Sanitary Inspector to act for the Medical Officer of Health under By-Law Number 2018 be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported. Mr. Michell, seconded by ~æ. Lawson, moves that the Report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law'Number 2026 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED BY-LAW NUMBER 2027 Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Lawson, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law of the Township of Pickering to appoint Auditors for the Township of Pickering, and that same now be read a first time. Mr. Michell, seconded by ~~. Balsdon, moves that By-Law Number 2027 to appoint Auditors for the Township of Pickering be now read a second time, and that Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon. The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported. Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that the Report of the Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 2027 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that Clerk be authorizèd to purchase from Brunner Mond of Canada, Li~ted, 232 Tons calcium Chloride @ $ 42.80 per ton, amounting to $ 9,929.60.
