MUNICIPAL BUILDING
BROUGHAM
An Emergent Meeting of the Council of the Township of Pickering was held
on TUESDAY, the THIRTEENTH day of APRIL, 1954, at 7: 30 0' clock in the
evening.
PRESENT: George T. Todd, in the Chair
Clare A. Balsdon
William G. Newman
William G. Lawson
Hugh G. Michell
~. B.~, West Rouge, was heard, asking that the . 300.00' Building
Deposit be not required to build his house, as he had not the funds.
Mr. Bell agreed to get a Performance Bond, or arrange through his
Banker.
MOVED by Mr. Newmanl seconded by Mr. Lawson, that 1954 Police rate be
6.8 Mills to raise ~ 32,420.08, plus 1. Mill for Capital Account to
build new Police Station at estimated cost of $ 15,000.00, and that a
further 1. Mill be levied in years 1955 and 1956 to cover capital cost
of same. CARRIED

AGREED Clerk arrange for School Area Meeting with Mr. Archibald and
Chairman Toronto Board of Education, Thursday, April 22, at 8 P. M. at
Bay Road School.

Mr. Lawson, seeonded by Mr. Newman, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
of the Municipal Corporation of the Township of Pickering to authorize
the borrowing øf $ 75,000.00 on Capital Account, and that same now be
read a first, time.

the borrow1ng of $ 75,000.00 on Capital Account, be now read a second time,
and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.

to assess the several School Se~tions and Union School Sections in the
Municipality of the Township of Pickering, to provide funds for the purposes
of the said School Sections, in the year 1954, and that same be now~ead
a first time.
Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Newman" moves that, By-Law Number 1999 to ,
assess the several School Sections and Union Public School Sections in the
Municipality of the Township of Pickering, to provide funds for t~e pur-
poses of the said School Sections in the year 1954, be now read a ~econd
time, and that the Council go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported.

to asse~s tþe Municipality o~ the. Township of Pickering, for the Improvement
and rep~ir pf roads and bridges, payment of salaries, the general expenses
of the Corporations, to defray the cost of Welfare, for this Municipality's
share ot th~ cost of roads ~d general purposeß of, the County of Ontario,
and to pay the Township's share of the cost of operations of the Pickering
District High School Board for the year 1954, and that same now be read a
first time.

the Municipality of the Township of Pickering, for th~ improvement and repair
of roads and bridges, payment, of salaries, the general expenses of the Cor-
porations, to defray the cost of Welfare, for this Municipality's skare of
the cost of roads and general. purposes of the County of Ontario, and to pay
the Township's share of the cpst of operations of the Pickering District
High School Board for the year 1954, be now read a second time, and that
the Council go into Committee. of the Whole thereon.

to increase certain Municipal employee salaries and employ an assistant
to Assessor and Clerk, and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that By-Law No. 2001 to increase
certain Municipal employee salaries and employ an. assistant to Assessor
and Clerk, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.

to levy a special rate on the taxable property in the Police Village of
Claremont, to defray the cost of street lights and other special purposes
in the said Village, in the year 1954, and that same now be read a first
time.

Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, moves that the Report of the Committee
of the Whole on By-Law No. 2002 be adopted, and that the said By-Law be
now.re~d a Third time and passed; that the Reeve and Clerk sign the same,
and that the Seal of the Corporation be affixed thereto. CARRIED

and to repeal By-Laws Numbers 1970 and 1993, and that same now be read

authorize the borrowing of $ 80,000.00 upon Debentures for Public School
purposes and to repeal By-Laws Numbers 1970 and 1993, be now read a second
time, and that the Counfil go into Committee of the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported.

borrowing of $ 80,000.00 upon Debentures for School Purposes (School
Section No.1), and that same now be read a first time.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, moves that By-Law No. 2004 to
authorize the borrowing of $ 80,000.00 upon Debentures for School
purposes, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.
