An Emergent Meeting of Council was held on WEDNESDAY the SEVENTEENTH
day of MARCH, 1954, commencing at EIGHT o'clock in the evening.

The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
PRESENT:
1. Earl Harrison, agent for King Calcium Products, submitted price of
t 6.55 per fifteen pound bag. Warbicide.
2. Kenneth Balsdon submitted price of $ 6.60 per fifteen pound bag
C. I. L. Warbicide.
3. George Morgan submitted price of $ 85.00 for Police Lavatory.
4. L. A. Boucher, Department of Highways, advised that the $ 2,000.00
used truck purchased in 1953 would be subsidized.
5. Department of· Highways, advising that No.7 Highway, Greenwood
cut-off, is a Provincial Road as of March 17, 1954.
6. T. M. Moore, advising that the approval of a residential plan
cannot be contingent on building houses in excess of Building
By-Law.
7. R. E. Sims, County Engineer, asking that waterways be protected
on Brock Road between No. 2 and 401 Highways, as much survey
work is being done to the east.
8. A. E. Taylor, Concession 2, Lot 29, objecting to George Hartts
Kennel Licensed dogs running at large.
9. Ontario Traffic Conference, soliciting membership fee of Ten
Dollars. TABLED
10. James Griffin, Whitevale, asking that he receive the 5% Township
share pension back. NO PROVISION
11. John E. Power, Secretary Pickering Township Federation of Agri-
culture, asking that more weed spraying be done on Township roads.
12. Ted Ryan, asking Council to reimburse owners who have spent money
on Rouge Hills Drive north of Island Road, as it is now a Township
Road. NO ACTION
13. Mrs. Donald Manning, Pickering Beach, asking Council to remedy
their water problem. Council view on Road Inspection.
14. Application to build house, breezeway and garage, 2l' X 55' 6"
on corner lot, 50' X 158', facing on 158', lakeview Blvd. and
Shoal point RoaQ. Clerk to ask Building Inspector to endeavour
to purchase vacant lot to west, or get consent of Mr. Drummond
to the north.

17. T. M. Moore, advising that Harvey Anderson was charged with living

1955. Fee $ 30.00.

19. Metro Toronto - Department of Works - advising that they control no
water mains within miles of Pickering Township. Apply to Township
of Scarborough.
20. City of Windsor, ask~ng Council to endorse their resolution that
landlords provide 70 F. heat to tenants for certain periods of
year. No Action.
Council interviewed eight applicants for Assistant to Assessor and Clerk.
No final decision.
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, that spare Township TruGk be
rented to Warble-Fly account at 75¢ per hour plus gas for 1954.season.

purchased from Kenneth Balsdon through C.I.L. at $ 6.60 per fifteen ~ound

MOVED by Mr. Michell, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that Reeve
authorized to execute a conveyance of old road allowance
1/5 of Concession 5, Lot 10-11 pursuant to By-Law Number
June 8, 1870. .

BY-LAW NUMBER 1994
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves for leave to introduce a By-Law
to levy a rate to cover cost of operation of the several Fire Depart~ents
in the year 1954, and that same now be read a first time. ,

a rate to cover cost of operation of the several Fire Departmenï~s in the year
1954, be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee of
the Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported.

and that the said By-Law be now read a Third time and passed; tllat the Reeve
and Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the.Corporation be affixed t~

Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves for leave to introduce a 5y-Law
to appoint a Board of Management for,the Claremont Community Memorial
Athletic Field and Park and of the Claremont Community Hall, and that same
now be read a first time.

By-Law Number 1995 - Second Reading
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that By-Law No. 1995 to
appoint a Board of Management for the Claremont Community Memorial
Athmetic Field and Park and of the Claremont Community Hall, be now
read a second time and that the Council go into Committee of the
Whole thereon.
The Committee of the Whole then arose and reported.
Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Michell, moves that the Report of the
Committee of the Whole on By-Law No. 1995. be adopted, and that the
said By-Law be now read a Third time and passed; that the Reeve and
Clerk sign the same, and that the seal of the Corporation be affixed
thereto. CARRIED
AGREED that Council meet on Tuesday, the 23rd day of March, at
eight P. M.
