A Meeting of Council was held'on MONDAY, the FIFTH day of OCTOBER, '
1953, commencing at l0 o'clock in the forenoon.

read, and on MOTION of Mr. Balsdon,'seconded by Mr. Michell, ADOPTED
The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:
1.Miss A. E. Richardson - Renewal Insurance on Municipal Building.
$ 4,500.00 on building, and $ 1,500.00 on eqdipment.
2. Ajax and PickerinE Township General Hospital, advising that the
cost of furnishing one pab~ent's room is $ 282.20.
Byron C. B~rry, asking if he pUrchased seven acres in Concession
5, Lot 2, he would be granted a Kennel License.
4. Ontario ~unicipal Board, advising that they will extend our
Freezing Zoning Order on Industrial Area for a further year.
5. Proctor, Redfern and Laughlin, advising that filtration gallery
at Fairport for water project is, in their opinion, satisfactory
and that they expect one-half to.three-quarter million gallons
daily.
6. Resignation of Constable N. G. HornunE.
7. Police Commission, advising that Constable Freema~ promoted to
Acting Sergeast, as of October lst~ at salary of $3,200.00 yearly,
~ and their approval for payment of $ 215.03 to Township for police
supplies. (2) Advising that the Commission deem it necessary
to add five more police officers for 1954.
Dunbarton Home an~ School Association, ~sking for speed limit, and
signs on north side of Dunbarton Schgol.
9. Monteith and Monteith. Account of $ 163.75 for preparing Picketing.

10. VillaKe of PickerinK, asking CounCil pay part of cost of survey
of north-east boundary of Village.
ll. Improvement Dis6rict of Ajax, presenting revised Agreement for
fire service.
12. Robert O. Ravey, off~ring ll4 feet in Dunbarton for Fire Hall
at $ 3,500.00.
13. Ontario MunicipaI Board, refusing blanket approval for Building
Inspector and Council to refuse BUilding Permits for wet lots.
14. Mr. Newman~ of Toronto Sand and Grave~ Company, advising that he
has sp~ $ 202.00 in 1953 for oil and calcium on his lane and
Fourth Concession to keep dust down.
15.' F. J. Prouse, Building Inspector~ reported 42. Permits for Sept-
ember,~totalling $ 2~4,300.00. Average 25 dwellings, value, $
$8,700.00. Total year, $ 2,186,500.00 ~

17. Improvement District of Ajax, asking to be included on Pickering Town-
ship Planning Board. · ~
18. Crown-Attorney, asking for 366 Jurors.
19. Canadian Paci~ic,.Railway, advising that they expect the top board on
railway - road crossings to be removed in the not-too-distant future
so that motorists' vision of oncoming trains may be improved.
20. Canadian National Railway, advising that they expect the top board on

reflectors at Rosebank crossing. ~
The following PERSONS on MOTION, were heard:
F. J.. Prouse, re persons living in'trailers and cabins.
2. Nrs. Dean, Rosebank, requesting that less roads be taken over'bY Township
in Rosebank,~that is, exclude road from Rodd's store to railway.
3. C. E. Morley, Pickering Village, asked that Township pay part of cost of
survey north-w~st'boundary dividing the Municipalities.
4. Mr. Redfern submitted estimated costs of water for three'areas of ~
Pickering Township in area, 300 feet north of Second Concession to
Guild to Lake to Rouge River. Assessment $3,600,000.00.

5. Mr. Hemenway, Pickering Beach, asked that Picketing Beach road be drained
on west side to the Lake. Council investigate.

MOVED by Mr. Newman~ seconded by Mr. Lawson, that Clerk be instructed ~o lay
a charge (on aAvice) against John E. Ryder for living in a trailer. Ten days'
notice. Deliver ~ letter. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Lawson, seconded by Mr. Newman, that Mr. O'Day be charged under
By-Law 1838, Section 3 (Trailers). Ten days' notice. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by ~r. Michell, that as ~he Registry Office
require a survey of six lots in the north-west corner of Pickering Village ~
that this Council pay 50%, up to total of $ 250.00, ~f such~cost to. establish
Township line. · . ~ CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded hy Mr. Michell~ that Council approve Ajax Fire
Agreement, as amended, except that it be retroactive to January l, 1953.
Reeve and Clerk sign Agreement. CARRIED ·
MOVED by Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Lawson, that a water vote be taken on
December 7, 1953, in the area 300 feet north of Second Concession to Lake
from Guild to Scarborough Town line. CARRIED
MOVED by ~Mr. Newman, seconded by Mr. Hichell, ~that Mr. Lawson approve or
refuse Kennel License for Mr. Be~ry,~in Concession 5, Lot ~, afte~ invest-
igation. CARRIED
MOVED by Mr. Lawson~ seconded by Mr. Michell, that insurance on Municipal
Building be increased from $4,500.00 plus $ 1,500.00 to 7,000.00 plus $3000.00.

in the Ajax Hospital at a cost not to exceed $350.00, and that a "Labour
bed" be donated at a cost not to exceed $ 398.00. CARRIED
