Stouffvil.le Fire Brigade Account of $60?00 for a fire at Mr. Dyke".~, Concession 9, Lot 23. 2. Department of Highways approval of $112,000.00, reduced from $130,000.00 - 1953 ROad APpropriation. 3- Eathleen BroOks - complaint that Council removed earth from ~adside in front of her property and left in a bad condition. The Council will investigate.~ 4. Telegram -'Bell Gouinlock and Company offered $98.75 for our $90,000.00 - 5%' 20 year Debenture. W.A. Dempsey, President of Centenial Community Association, asked that Scarboro Town line, south of No. 2 A Highway be paved. This will be discussed on May 13th, next. 6. Fine~s, March, 1953 - $114.66. 7. R.C: Bake?.. - advising that he would like sideline between lots 16 and 17, north of C.P.R. tracks closed'and purchase the same. 8. .Mr. Kertri~ht - advised that he would like sideline between lots 16 and 17 about 40 rods south of C.P.R. closed and purchase same. 9. ~. the Agricultural representative - advising that the operators should be careful about fouling streams. 10. Fines 320 · 00 The coming of spring has brought much activity to the area. Traffic has been heavy, and compl~aints increased greatly. The moral~ of Juveniles is causing much concern, and several investigations are under way at present. We have two new Constables, one to replace Constable Wilson, who resigned, and they are both~ doing a good Job. -2- 10. I have had a reply from the Honorable Provincial Secretary with regard to Civil Defence Organization, and hope to be able to have a Committee set up late in Nay. Re spectfully submitted, "L. W. The Dunbarton Legion to be fully respon_sible for the good conduct of Members and any damage or injury that might result from this. ~ project. This permission subject to cancellation on notice. 13. I letter from A. Davis. :-7. &-)l~-~' I was a member of the Canadian Legion here-in Ajax when the place was raided by the PiCketing Police last Fall, and oar beer was seized. We paid a heavy fine, which nearly finished the organization. Recently we madeenquiries from the Liquor. Control Board, and they have no record of ever receiving this beer from the Police at Picketing. I am asking you, as a Councillor of Picketing Town- ship to have' this investigated, as this is a serious ·offence. The Sargeant of the Police (Provincial) at Whitby was dismissed after 25 years service, for only 2 bottles ~short of seized alcohol, and our loss was far heavier. Nash ~ in reply to our letter advised that if Picketing Village becomes a Member of the Planning Board, a resolution from them wot~ld be require~, also a new resolution from Whitby Township. 15. PickePin6 Village asked for a grant for the Coronation Activities. 16.Chief Trinnell reported on the setting up of a Civil Defence Committee' for Picketing Township. 17. Central Nortgage & Housing Corporation - turning back to Township sideline between Lots ~ - 3, and ~ - ~ in B F,'R 3 - Road Euper- intendent to see that fences are removed, and lands left in same condition as when taken over. Clerk again ask that R~nge Line in Ajax be re-opened. 19. A suggestion was made that Pickerin~ Township assume 50% of services and cost of an enginee~ which Markham ~ownship is hit ing. TABLED, 20. The Maple Leaf~Farmers Mutua. 1 Fire Insurance Company forsarded~ their cheque for $660.00 for our Fire SerVice to properties in- sured by them for the year 1952. 21. Canadian Cancer Society - as~king for a grant. 22. Belleville Recreati~on Comission , notice of a train~ing Course at Beiievili~ in t~he lat~te~ part of June. The following persons on NOTION were heard: 1. Mr~ Hemmingway - Trustee of School Area #1, presented a petition of ~ owners of 68 resident owners, asking that Picketing Beach and several f arms to the north cede from the School Area #1, and form their own School Secti&n. ~essrs. Morle~ and.~.~esser of Picketing Village discussed: Asked for a grant for their Coronation Ceremonies.~ 2. Township - Village agreement. 3. It was suggested that the Fire Calls'be $60.00 each to the Township. 3. Mr. William Fertile of Fairport - wahted a drainage course changed "where ~'t g~es through south of the Ball Field. It was agreed that Nr. Ward submit the cost to Mr. Fertile~some Monday, Picketing 255 w 2. 4- Nr. Lawrence and Nr. F.M. Chapman - asked for a gra~t for the Ajax - Picketing Township Hospital. Graham and Company - stated that he had a sealed tender for our $90,000.00 Debenture. MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, SECONDED by- Mr. ,Lawson that the Clerk advertise to close sideline between lots l&to 17, Concession 9, from a point about 201rods south of C.P.R. tr&ak to the Uxbridge Townline. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman SECONDED by Mr. Lawson that the rec- ommendation of the Game Cozmnimsion be accepted. CARRIED MOVED by Mr. Newman SECONDED by Mr. Lawson that Council be a Committee to view lands suitable for the erection of a Police Office with power to purchase same, and to inspect Polani and Brooks properties.
