James Griffin, who has been employed for ~ years on the Road Dep- artment, was dismissed February 9 by the Road Superintendent, and he asked for his job back. 'He stated that: he had done his work well, had no trouble, and always reported for work before 6:30 A.M. He claime~ that he was dismissed and not .!~iven a reason. - Mr. Ward was'asked to state why had he dismissed ].~r. Griffin and he stated that i¥~r. Griffin did not get on well with the other men or himself for some time, and that the situatio~ has 0een turnin~ for the worse for the past two years. One man refused to work with ~r. ,Griffin. Some work satisfactory. He did not follow orders, became worse recently. As good a brush-cutter as any, would be difficult to handle when he was required to do work as ordered. He has only oneeye a~d as his work is to feed the ~ravel crusher~ the Workmen's Corpensation Board might not be satisfied. 12. Thomas Westerman was speaking on behalf of ~ames Griffin. 13. CARRIED ~ereas this Council is concerned with the sSeady increase in Municipal Taxation in this township d~ing the past few years; And whereas there has been a substantial increase in police costs over which this Council has no control; And whereas these additional costs are paid for by people who live in Pickering Township. And whereas these increased police costs have not resulted in more efficient Policing of the Township but rather in an alarming lessening of Public confidence in t?~e Police Force; And whereas this Council does not have confidence in the efficiency or impartial,devotion to duty of the force as presently constituted and adminfstered; And'whereas responsibility for conditions in the Police Force must rest with those who refua to give effect to the expressed will of last ~rear's elected representatives of the people of Picketing Township. BE IT RESOLVED that the Police .Commission be requested to give immediate effect to the expressed will of the elected representatives of the tax-payers o~' Picketing by effecting a oomptete re-organization of the Township Police Force on a basis of, efficiency, impartiality, and strict devotion to duty. Ne~rman moves for leave to int- roduce a By-law to Assess the ~unicipality of the ~ownship of Picketing, for the improvement and repair of Roads and Bridges, payment of salaries, the general expenses of the Corporations, to defray t~e cost of Welfare, for this Municipalities share of the cost of Roads and General Purposes of the °ounty of Ontario and to pay the Townships share of the cost of operations for the Picketing District High School Board, for the year 1953 and that same be now read a First time.
