PRESENT: Reeve W. H. Westney, in the Chair. Deputy-Reeve George T. Todd, Councillor Clare A. Balsdon Councillor Milton B. Burk and Councillor Fred E. Zinkie. The MINUTES of the August 1st 1950 meeting were read, and on MOTION of Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Todd, ADOPTED. The MINUTES of the August 10th, 1950 meeting were read, and on MOTION ~of Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Bu~k, ADOPTED. The MINUTES of the August 25th, 1950, meeting were read, a~d on MOTION of Mr. Todd seconded by Mr. Balsdon, ADOPTED. The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:- 1. County Clerk - re hospitalization Barbara and Helen Stone, Picketing R.R. 1. REPUDIATED. 2. " - re hospitalization Garfield Bell, R.R.2 Pi ckering. ACCEPTED. 3.~ E. B. Palmer, Township of Muskoka - asking~ us to accept welfare Mrs.-Clifford Roach, until Mother's Allowance is pasaed for payment. ACCEPTED. Mrs. Theodora Hartford - complaining about condition of Shoal Point Road. WILL GRAVEL. 5. National Capital Ptanntn~ Com~ittee, Ottawa - advising that there will be a discussion of the Ottawa General Plan at the Coliseum, C.N.E., September 12th, 1950, at 7.30 P.M. and inviting us to attend. 6. Letter Supply Co. - advising that they will do 1950 ~oters' List for $165.00 net. 7. The People of Liverpo. ol - a protest of 16 residents re howling of Jos. Edwards' dogs. 8. Cl. erkt Township of Markhamt - asking for COuncil's opinion of a renewal of present agreement regarding upkeep of Townline which expires in 1950. 9. Picketing Game Committee - advising that they are not in favor of Sunday target practise.~ 10. L. W. Trinnell, Chief COnstable, advising that he is not in favor of Sunday target practise. 11. Department of Highways - advising that our tender of~$1,750, for 5 acres on Station Road was not accepted. 12. Geo. S. McCord - advising he is considering sales price for Annis and Ellieott gravel pits. 13. W. J. Hare - re search proposed property for Fire Hall B.F.R.3 L.31. 1~. J.W.P. Carter, Department of Municipal Affairs - re our Building By-law. 15. Canadian Good Roads Association - re Annual Convention at Winnipeg Sept. '19- 21. 1950. -2- CORRESPONDENCE- Continued: 16. F.J.P~ouse - stating August Building permits amounted to $59,300.00. l?. Sidney Hensen - wants work done on his private road in Rouge Hills. Advise Road Superintendent will do work if advised what to do and is paid for it. The following PERSONS, on motion, WERE HEARD:- 1. Mathew WonE - complaining about' ou~ Police closing his two restaz~ants at ll or 12 o'clock On certain nights. 2. J~R.Marttn - re Polling Bogths - Dt~tching - Telephone - Fire - Water, etc. 3. C.E.Morle~ - re Picketing water. James Ravey~ sr. - asking for' speed limit on Fairport Road North. 5. Sergt~ White - re Mathew Wong. MOVED by Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Todd, that Council support bur Police in--~osing the Wong restaurants at 11 or 12 o'clock certain nights as a temporary measure to stop teen-age rowdyism due to certain temporary construction work being done in the vicinity. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Zinki~, that Constable Channing's car ~e used for police work - that it be insured by the Township - and the regular 7~ c~nts per mile for police work be paid said Constable. CARRIED, MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Burk, that Letter SupplyCo.. print our 1950 Voters' List for quotation of $165.00. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Todd, that the Road Department post proper signs for a speed limit of 30 miles per hour on Altona~ Road between No. 2 Highway and the First Concession. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Zinkie, seconded by Mr. Burk, that the Road Bepartmen~ post proper signs for a speed limit of 30 miles per hour on Fairport Road between No. 2 Highway and the Second Concession. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Todd, seconded by ~r. Burk, that the present agreement between the Townships of Picketing and Markham,.relative to care of Townline, be renewed for a further ten ye~ars. ~ CARRIED. AG~ the Clerk ask Markham Township to investigate the necessity~ of a culvert on the townline north of Pickering,s old Sixth Concession line to drain corner house - also the need for some ditching Just north of the C.P.R. tracks. _ by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Burk, that a grant of $50.00 ven South Ontario Plowmen's AsSociation for 1950. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Zinkie, that the Clerk send a copy of resolution regarding the application of Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation for 399 extra acres for Ajax Area, to the Assessment Department of Municipal Affairs. cARR~ED~ ~ by Mr. Balsdon., seconded by Mr. Todd, that Council purchas$ ~ Bradma Addressing Machine 3R - ELB Demonstration Model Lister at $890.00, 1 ~ 3R · HMB Hand Embosser at $~90.00, 5,000 blank plates at $37.50 a thousand - $187.50 and 24-Tray Cabinets at $95.80, making a total of $1,660.30 - inqluding EMB Electric Embosser on loan, sales tax, installation and delivery, 3 months free service, 6 months guarantee and providing our original plates are set up b~ ~said Company for $50.00 extra. MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Burk, that whereas approximately ~f all calls to the Chief Constable of the Township - L.W.Trinnell - are on the Woodbridge and Vaughan Telephone Company's Picketing Exchange through Toronto to his Scarboro' ,phone; And Whereas the Chief Constable and the Clerk have repeatedly approached said Telephone Company over the past five months, asking that said Chief Constable be given a ,phone, and to date they have been unable to secure such a 'phone. And Whereas residences on either side of that of the Chief Constable have telephone service from Woodbridge and Vaughan Telephone Company, Picketing Central. And Whereas it is imperative that police calls be gotten through without undue delay. Be it therefore Resolved by the Municipal Council of the Township of Picketing, that, in view of the circumstances, the Woodbridge amd Vaughan Telephone Company be requested to take any action necesamry so that Chief Constable Trinnell may secure a ,phone from them on the Picketing Exchange as soon as possible. While it is desirable that this 'phone be on a semi-private line with Sergeant F.W. White, any 'phone would be appreciated until the semi-private line can be arranged. CARRIED. CLERK'S INSTRUCTIONS. 1. Write LiverpoOl residents re Edwards' kennel.~ 2. Write Jos. EdWards asking when kennel will be built. 3- Arrange for Teefys to vote at Cherrywood and notify. ~ 4- Get insurance .on Channing's car. ~ 5. Ask Departmen~ of Highways for a "Brock Road" sign to be placed at No. 2 Highway. 6. Ask Road Superintendent to pick up garbage on Fourth Concession at Lot 18. · BY-LAW NO. 1834 1st Reading. · ~ Mr. Geo. Todd, secsnded by Mr. Clare Balsdon, moves for leave to introduce a By-law:'to alter polling sub-divieions, and that same now be read a first time. 2nd Reading Mr. George Todd, seconded by Mr. F~ed Zinkie, moves that By-law No. 183~ to alter polling sub-divisions, be now read a second time, add that the~Council go into Committee of the whole thereon. 3rd Reading Mr. George Todd, seconded by. Mr. Milton Burk, moves that the Report of the Committee of the Whole on By-law No~ 183~ be adopted, and that the said~By-law~be now read-a Third time and pass~d;~that the Reeve and Clerk s~gn the same, an~ that the seal of.the Corporation be affixed thereto.
