BROUGHAM
An EMERGENT MEETING of Council was held on August 10th 1950, commenci~
at the hour of EIGHT O'CLOCK in the evening.
PRESENT: Reeve W. H. Westney, in the Chair
Deputy-Reeve George T. Todd and
Councillors Clare Balsdon, Milton Burk and Fred Zinkie.
The following CORRESPONDENCE was read:-
1. Canadian Peace Congress~ - asking Council to sign a petition
to ban the Atom Bomb. TABLED
2. Department of Planning and Development - advising that
they have prepared "The Second Ontario Industrial Promotion
Conference" book, and copies are available. Clerk to obtain
two copies or more.
2. Two complaints re Fitzgerald Kennel on noise (B.F.R.3
Lot 29.) Clerk to write.
4- james Martin, ~owner LOt~31, Concession 2 - asking road be
improved and regarding his house under the old By-law. Clerk
advise him to see the Building Inspector re house and he must first
open fill. in ditch in front of his proposed house.
5. Cheque qo~e~ing_July ~950~fines - $134.06.
6. Picketing Beach Rifle and Gun Club - asking permission to
operate on Sunday mornings.
7. Copy of Clerk's letter to Chief Constable re Mfs.Mary Anness
living in Ferrier Cabin contrary to By-law No. 1787,
8. Copy of ~etter from Clerk to Chief Constable re Misner living
in Garage contrary to By-law No. 1787 (Plan 320, Lot 72.).
9. County Clerk re hespitalization Mrs. Anna Lockett, Ajax. ACCEPT
10. The Planning Board recommended that Mr. Culham prepare an
enlarged plan of the south-~ast part of Picketing Township
showing houses and levels for a Mas~er Plan, to start zoning,
at a cost of $300.00 to $350.00, and that Picketing Township
pay 100% of cost.
Council agreed that no action be taken at present.
Mr. Gordon Culhaml presented his account as Planning Engineer
for March 3rd to August 4th 1950 inclusive.
On MOTION of Mr. George Todd, seconded by Mr. Milton Burk,
it was ~ecommended that Mr. Culham's account be paid. CARRI~
MOVED by Mr. George Todd, seconded by Mr. Fred Zinkie, that "Stop"
signs be placed on the Second Concession at Altona Road both sides.

MOVED by Mr. George Todd, seconded by Mr. Clare Balsdon, that we
e~gage Mr. Hare of Whitby to search Cronkw~ight property in B.F.R.3
Lot 31 and complete purchase of 100 ft X ~00 ft for Fire Hall. CARRIE
MOVED by Mr. George Todd, seconded by Mr. Milton Burk, that Council
enter $1,750 for £ive acres in north-east corner Lot 17, Concession 1
to Department of Highways, and issue a cheque for $175.00, being 10%
of tender required. CARRIE
MOVED by Mr. G. Todd, seconded by Mr . C. Balsdon, that Council go on
record as being opposed to any Gun Club operating on Sundays in the
Township. CARRI~

MOVED by Mr. George Toad, seconded by Mr. Milton Burk,
~the Clerk advertise in the "Picketing News" and
"Stouffville Tribune" for additional names of men and
women who made the supreme sacPifice in WorldWar II,
so that they may be added to the County Plaque· CARRIED.
Clerk to have the Police take action re Ritchte and
Fralick wells as they are a hazard and both parties have
been formerly notified.
