BROUGHAM
A meeting of Council was held on TUESDAY~ JTILY 4th~ 19~0, commencing
at the hour of TEN O'CLOCK in the forenoon.

The MINUTES of the meeting on June 5th were read, and on MOTION of
Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Bu~k, ADOPTED.
The MINUTES of the meeting on June 20th 1950, were read, and on
MOTION'of J~. Bu~k, seconded by M~. Todd, ADOPTED.
The following CORRESPONDENCE was read :-
1. H.A. Newnmn regard.ing culvert at entranc, e and ditch
filled in between Lots 14 and 15, Concession 6. - Mr. C.A.
Balsdon to contact..
2. W.A. Price, Whitevale, re street lights.
3- ' Dunbarton Home and School Association - presenting a
petition of:33 names asking that cigarettes be not sold to
children under-16 years of age. - By-law being prepared for '
licensing all vendors of cigarettes so that Police may have
more control.
De artment of Hi hwa s, advising that we a~e'at liberty~
to instal 30 n~A-e~~b~eed signs within the Township on
Township roads, providing that the a~ea is sufficiently built up.
5. Department of Highways, advising that they will not per'it
'a speed limit of 30 miles per hour on No. 2 Highway between
Altona Road and Rosebank, as the area-is not sufficiently buil~ up.
6. Jos. Edwards applying for Dog Catcher appointment.

8. A.M. Wootton, Whitby, advising that he is acting for
Mrs.. Helen Sawdon in her claim for $100. damages for her
accident on Fairport Road North last Spring when she suffered
certain damages by falling in a hole in the road.

have a Graphotype, used, for $~00.

The following PERSONS, on mOtion, were HEARD:t
1. Dr.. N.F.Tomlinson, re~arding certain houses in Township
which should~be Placar~d as unfit for living quarters. Stated
Sanitary Inspe~or, Nu~seand he would submit a list.
2. Mr. Wickett stated he had a grave~ pit of 9~acres in
north-e~t corner of Lot 15, Concession 4, for which he would
tak~ $15~000. Council to investigate.~
3. W.C. Willson, Sheep Inspector, asked for flock damage
for John B. Whi~e of from $100. to $200. 17 lambs from ~1
sheep after dog damage.
4- Chief Trinnell - asked ~or 2 extra full-time policemen
and a ~io h0~k-up ~t cost of about $725. per car. Chief to
advise scale of wages.
5. Mr. Martin of 885 CoxwelI Avenue, Toronto, asked that
as his ~ assessment was reduced, he should be given a reduction
on his_.~. tax. Council took no action.
6. Mr. Wm. McEachnie - regarding Terrill indigent funeral.~
7. Mr. Doxie and~Mr. Fre~m0uth asked for more gravel and
grading in Plan 345- They owe $~0.25 for work done last year
and would pay $140. a year for three years, and extra work
to be paid for.
8. Mr. Barker and others asked for a repeal of ou~ By-law
prohibiting'pin ball machines, and stated that his clients
were prepared to pay ~ good license fee for each location~
9. Mr. Prouse was heard regarding:-
1. Perm~its taken out prior to June 30th 1949, where
some work had been done, and
2. Contractors of new High School not filling the cement
blocks below g~ade level.
10. Mrs. Anne Hume wanted to proceed with house not completed
under old permit.
11. Cliff Schwalm applied for p~sition of Dog Ctacher stating
he had a barn on 12 acres of land and sufficient time for the
work.
12. Fran~ Martin - regarding speed limit on No. 2 Highway ~
at East Woodl~ds, also Within East Woodlands sub-division.

13. Ed. Hannah - asked for a speed limit on Pairport
Beach Road to Dunfair Chapel from 2 to 4 P.M. on Sundays -
Agreed that signs may be placed du~ing this time by ,
Church members.
rE, nest Stroud - complained about Building Inspector,
placarding his cabin size 12 ft by 1~ ft' when addition
was built and no per,it. No action.
MOVEDby M~. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Zinkie that the Road
u~intendent place 30mile-per-hour speed signs on Pairport
Road in Pairport. CARRIED.
MOVED byM~. Todd, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that Mr. Westnay,
~.---~inkie and the Clerk investigate Addressographmachines
du~ing week of July 17th. CARRIED.
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Zinkie, that Council
pe--~t a pin-ball machine to be set up in CounCil Chambers
to see how operated. CARRIED.
by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Zinkie, that persons who
out Building Permits prior to June 30th, 19~9, and had
not completed building, be issued a renewal pex~nit provided they
would buiId acCo~din~ to'new Building By-laws, but would notvbe
required to'dePositS300. CARRIED.
(Building Inspector to supply names and Clerk advise'.)
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by M~. Bu~k, that the Clerk instruct
the High School Board that all blocks in the foundation of the
High School building be filled with cement and sand at least
1 to 8mixture. CARRIED.
On the recommendation of the Buildin~ Inspector and authority of
the Reeve, this was changed to read that all blocks in the
foundation of the High School Building below ~r~,~md or fill level,
be filled with cement and sand at least 1 to 5 mixture."
pby Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Todd, that Clifford Schwal~
ointed Dog Catcher of the Township at a salary,of $25.00
per month plus necessary mileage at seven cents (7~), that the
Boarding fee be $1.00 per day of which the Township shall receive
25~ and Dog-catcher 75~; if dog is destroyed the Dog-catcher-
will receive 50~ (fifty cents) per dog for boarding from the:
Township. Hours to be ~ to S P.M. daily. CARRIED.
MOVED by Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Zinkie, that the Clerk bill
~oodbridge and Vaughan Telephone Co, Ltd, for Picketing
Fire Department.attending second call to extinguish tree fire
on Concession 1, Lot 17, on June 23rd 1950. CARRIED.
MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Todd, that the Clerk
w~----t'~-~Metropolitan Con~racti~D Co, asking if either the
Ellicott or Annis gravel pits are for sale. CARRIED.

ip Road employees be advanced $50.00 on account of
earnings about the middle of each month. CARRIED.

up~intendent obtain either 2-4-D or Atlicide possibly from
Mr. Bear~ County Weed Inspector at Greenbank, and spray poison
ivy in front of property of J~m Hunter - J. McEee - and any
other known places. CARRIED.

Street Lights, and that same now be read a first time.

be now read a second time, and that the Council go into Committee
of the Whole thereon.

Report of the Committee of the Whole oD By-law No. 1825 be adopted,
