HomeMy WebLinkAboutOctober 3, 1949 MUNICIPAL BUILDING BR0~GHAM. A meeting of the Members of Council was held at Brougham on OCTOBER 3rd, 1949, at ONE O'CLOCK in the afternoon. Ail Members were p~6sent, the Reeve~in the Chair. MINUTES of the previous meetings were read, and on motion of Mr.'"Burk, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, ADOPTED. The following 80RRESPONDENSE was read :- 1. Department of Highways - advising that they approve ~UrBy-law No. 17~9 t~king over Rougemount Drive and Toynevale Road as of August 30th, 1949. 2. Central MortgaKe& Housing Corporation - enclosing copy of Municipal B6ard's appoin~~ent'f°r Hearing cf proposed Ajax Improvement Area oni~September 20th, 1949, in Toronto at 10 A.M. 3. Ontario Municipal Board - tentative approval of our By-law No. 1792 re $466,000. Debenture for High School Building. 4. R.D.Ruddy - Partial search of (a) ~otter's Field Cemetery_ (b) Sideline between Lots 20 and 27 in the Fourth Concession. 5. Department of Municipal Affairs - approving closing of sideline between Lots 24 and 2~ in the Bixth Concession our ~y-law No. 1713. 6. Mrs. Edith Hughes Picketing Beach, Lot 55, had installed new culvert last year - claims this was broken up and a new one installed for $25.20, and refuses to pay for 'it. 22. Application for speed limit on Greenwood Hill. 23. Mrs. Pearl Perry, Concession 4, Lot 21, objects to drainage '~rom"8omers' farm in Concession 3, Lot 22, going through her property. 24. Mr. Stviter of Port Union asked ~at Town Line ditch . be deepened to run off water from his property. Clerk instructed t° have him make application to the Scarborb' Council. 25. ~os. Amos,' claims Sideline between Lots-34 and 35-in First ConcessiOn ~s not in correct location. Council advised that Amos get a survey, and if in error we will exchange deeds. 26. Dr. N.E.McEwen wants Council to use Ajax as a lever to have Township divided. 27. Fred A. Jones complaining about drainage at Fairport BeacH. 28. Mrs. G. White, asking for a rebate on subdivision lands at Rouge Hills as they were assessed for 34 acres.too much in 1948. (No action). AGREED that Clerk arrange meeting of Fire Br~adee and a Member of the Department with Council on either October 19th or 21st, if possible. AG~ Clerk sell old vault steel f~ $10.00 or better. AGREED that Mrs. H. Jatiouk be forced to pay extra $6.00 for dogs in 1948. ~he followi~ PERSONa, on motion, were HEARD.. :- 1. Mr. Morgan - stated that hill in Morgandale has not be'e~"'ditChed_ and cars were getting stuck. to investigate. 2. ~. A. Fairbairn - applied for a liquor license. 3. Welli ton Chester - complained about trees cut on rosa ax~owance and his father's assessment. 4. Irvon Mclean - asked that the east ditch of sideline opposite his property be deepened. Mr. Ward to investigate. ~ o 5. ~m. Reesor~ G.M. Fors~th and Wm. Dohert~, and six other . residents of Northern Picks'ring asked for information regarding High School Area. 6. The Township Roadmen - with Fred Hicks as spokesman - asked that their hourly wage.be increased from 65~ to 75 . 7. C.E.Morley re Pension plan. MOVED~by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. Burk, that no work o~on roads without consent of Township officials, be paid and that Mr. Parker of Rouge be ~so advised. CARRIED. ~OVED by Mr. Burk, seco.nded by Mr. Disney, that 1949 tax on Bu-~er house in Plan 345, Lot 233 be remitted as it was burned last December. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Disney, seconded by Mr. Burk, that Clerk get ~--~rmation about Mr..A.T.Hawkins of Markham, who wishes to ha~e Wideman ~eleased from ~0ntario ~Home to work on his farm .... CARRIED. 'MOVED .by Mr. Disney, seconded by Mr. BatSdon that Road men be increased from 65~ to 70~ per hour as of October lst,1949. MOVED oby Mr. M.B.Bu~k, seconded by Mr. C.A.Balsdon, that the Council of the COunty ~of Ontario be requested to cancel the appointment of Sidney Bishop, of Rouge Hills, as County Constable, as this Council believes the appointment is not now necessary: Said appointment was ~ecommended by this Council Jul~ 7th, 1941, by William Chester then Township ConstaBle.
