The Municipal Council of the Township of Picketing met on the Second day of August 1949, at Brougham, pursuant to adJourr~ent. Ail Members were present, the Reeve ~in the Chair. The Minutes of the previous meeting were pnese~ted, and 'on motion of Mr. Burk, seconded by Mr. Disney, adopted. The following Correspondence was ~ead:- 1. Rev.W%A.Kennad~-~complaining about manner taxes are collected in ~aspect of the ~man~Catholic property in Plan 377~. 2. Chief .of Police - July 19~9 Report. 3. Dept. of HiEhways - advising that Rougemount and Toyne roads had been resurfaced and ~hey were .now prepar~ed to turn them over to the Township. o Ontario Fire Marshall's Office - regardLng .creating fire areas and new legislation regarding same. 5-John B. Edmiston - requesting Sideline between Lots 30 and 31 in Second Concession be improved. 6. Sheridan Equipment Co.Limi~ed. -.advising that our Tractor Shovel has not been sold. 7- A petition signed by twenty-five ~25) residents of Dunbarton complaining about noise and odor nuisances of Butt' s Boarding Kennel. 8. LiQuor Licence Board of Ontario - advising procedure for the baking of a vote on the Liquor question.~ C~iff Rock Salt Limited - 196 Eaatern Avenue - ~dvising they are prepared to supply salt for removing snow next 10. Goldstlck & Kaplan - requesting permission for their ~ clients to build twenty 10 X 10 cabins on Concession 2, . REFUSED. Lot I7 11 County Clerk - re hospitalization Frank Grono, Brougham. ' ACCEPTED · 12. " " " " Late Milt~ Morgan, Picketing Beac! ACCEPTED. 13. Scarboro' Securities Ltd.- regarding park at ~Fairport Beach.' The FOLLOWING PERSONS, on motion, .were heard:- ~ A. Mr. Ed. Cornutt, asking that the $300. deposit with Building Permit be waived in cases of persons building under the Department of Veterans Affairs, as they have to make a deposit of $600.00 (Six Hundred Dollars) with D.V.A. before they build, and are then paid in seven payments according to progress. Council asked Mr. Cornutt to get a letter from D.V.A. to this ~effect. B. Mr. F. ~Donnell, complaining about Sidney Bishop acting as Constable at the Rouge. C. C.E. Morley and Mr. Aird of the Imperial Life Assurance ~mpany of ~anada, regarding a Township Employees' Pension rlan. -2- Persons Heard - continued: D. Mr. Bevis and two others from the Fire Marshall.s 0ffic~' regarding Fire A~eas and new legislation in respect of same. E. Mr. Fowlie of Good, ear Tire regarding truck tires. F.W.B. Milne asking for a grant for Markham Fairs 1948 and' 1949. G. F.J. Ross Irwin and Sydney Push of High Sbhool Board advising Council' o? their proposa~ to purchase 12 acres of .land north of Rickering Park from Walter White at a price of $1,000.00 per acre. MOVED by Mr. Todd, seconded by Mr. Balsdon, that whereas a petibion has been signed by 25 neighbors of Butt in Dunbarton complaining about his dogs being a nuisance, the Clerk advise Mr. Butt that the dogs must be removed by September First 19~9. CARRIED. MOVED by Mr~ Burk, seconded by Mr. Todd that the Township grant ~5~.00 for the year 19~8 and $25.00 for year 1949, to the Markham Fair Board. CARRIED. Disney, that the ~lerk contact the Department of Highways asking that a sign be ~placed at the corner of No.2A Highway and Station Road, reading "Picketing Station Road". CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Balsdon, seconded by Mr. T~dd, that the Township bond the Collector, E. G. Baker, for $10,000.00 (Ten Thousand Dollars ). CARRIED. MOVED by Mr. Disney, seconded by Mr. Todd, that the Treasurer be a~thorized to pay the High School Board $12,000.00 (Twelve Thousand Dollars) being cost of twelve acres of land to be purchased f~om Walter White, immediately north of Picketing Park, as th$ new High School site.
